Lamp Of Mihoshi: Check and Mate, Check and 'Mate' [Episode 196112]

by Gangsta Spanksta

“Alright then…” Nabiki gave her best smirk, completely ignoring the request for her to come up with a carefully worded wish to rid Ranma of ‘the girl’. Instead, she slung her arm around him, and pulled up close, molding her shapely body onto his, in an attempt to get a message through to the blond.

“…I wish,” she paused, thinking it through, “I wish when we are married that we’ll have more money than we’d ever dreamed of having…” she wished, as Ranma squirmed nervously at her side due to the closeness, before he froze, growing pale, with wide eyes, as he realized she had cheated him out of something, yet again.

Nabiki grinned; she was awfully pleased with herself. If this was a hoax, then her words would put that jerk into his place, belittling the fool, making him feel used – used like a pawn for her own personal gain. If not, then what’s his would be hers by way of community property. Either way, she won, and what made it all the more sweet was she won by using their rules, without making a run-on wish.

‘…To think, they must have thought themselves to be quite clever,’ she snickered internally, before looking over at the boy by her side, her ‘hubby’, which just made her snicker again, before thinking, ‘Check and mate, Saotome, check and mate.’

One thing was for certain, she really wouldn’t mind being married to that lunk, not if they were well-to-do that is. Honestly, she wouldn’t mind even if they weren’t, provided they were happy. The truth was she was as lonely as she was greedy, even moreso most of the times. She didn’t mind an arranged marriage, even if it was to some guy she had never met before. She was Japanese, after all, and family honor and loyalty meant a great deal to her, more than most people would suspect. And to her it would be a blessing in disguise, considering how most boys veered clear of her out of fear.

So she would do her duty, gaining companionship and support from another, believing people could learn to love each other, later. At least, that seemed better to her than waiting around, waiting for a prince to come that never came, only to end up dying disappointed and alone, never to know the gentle touch of another. The only reason she wasn’t his fiancée now was he had put her off initially by showing little to no ambition when it came to things such as earning a living or providing for one’s family; a girl looked out for those things, after all, when judging a mate. But now, perhaps things could be different. Sure, he’d hold it against her, but she also knew he was the forgiving sort.

“Oh my, the two of you make such a cute couple. Wish most definitely granted!” Mihoshi said, giggling, as she looked at that cute boy and his girlfriend; the way he struggled and squirmed against her tight grip brought back a wave of emotional nostalgia, making her wonder how Tenchi and the girls were doing, right now. All that money sure would make for a nice wedding gift, and he definitely deserved it for standing up for her, earlier.

The problem with Nabiki’s wish wasn’t that it was complex, nor had it violated any of the clauses. The problem was that she dreamed big. For instance, one of her favorite manga was that American one – the one with that Scrooge McDuck guy and his wonderful money bin. She liked the concept of owning a money bin, and in fact, would often times find herself dreaming of diving in and out of gold coins, in her very own metropolis filled with them, and those were just her smaller dreams. On the grander scale, she often found herself being the empress of a vast galactic empire of unimaginable wealth.

So there was no possible way for her wish to take place on the current Earth she found herself on, especially considering having someone of such unimaginable wealth pop up from out of the blue would only cause ‘intrinsic world-wide changes in personalities’. Half the world’s population would despise her for her wealth alone. Furthermore, creating an alternate universe to suit her needs was both expensive in mana and complex, and so would be ruled out by the third clause. No, the simplest way to carry out the wish, since animosity for the rich was universal, was to switch Ranma and Nabiki with versions of themselves from another universe that were fated to wed and unimaginably rich.

“Oh great! Thanks a lot, Nabiki,” Ranma found himself complaining, as he faded out of reality.

In another world, not having met Nabiki yet to wed, Ranma finds himself ...
