3 Genies in a Bottle: If Doug Henning Was Alive, He’d Be Rolling Over In His Grave [Episode 197357]

by Kwakerjak

Ranma seemed to take the news about the meddling that had been done to her sexuality reasonably well, though a large part of that was likely due to the fact that she had been oversaturated with surprise in the past two and a half days, and thus wasn’t even capable of really reacting with anything more than mild irritation. Nabiki privately mused to herself that it would be quite interesting to see Ranma’s reaction when she realized that her newly acquired bisexuality would still be in full effect when she was male—but instead of bringing this up immediately, she left her two companions to clean themselves off. Quite simply, Ranma needed to relax, as did Mihoshi, and there were few things like a nice, hot bath to help stress melt away, if only temporarily. Nabiki had decided to let them be, lest she say something that ruined the moment. There would be plenty of time for snarky comments later, when they were in slightly better spirits.

Of course, they were both naked, and they were both bisexual, so there was always a chance that something physical could go on; Nabiki wasn’t too worried about that though. Given the fact that Ranma was still defiantly clinging to her masculinity, she highly doubted the redhead would let her first time be in her female form, sexual attraction or no. Well, if the waiting between masters got really long, then maybe Ranma would cave in out of sheer boredom, but that was still a long way from happening. In the meantime, there was still Mihoshi, who, despite being a total airhead, was really quite endearing in her own way; of course, it helped that she had a great-looking body, and an apparent willingness to have fun with it….

Nabiki quickly shook the thoughts from her head. Somehow, she was already starting to drift into fantasies about her roommates, and she found this to be mildly disturbing. Contrary to the rumors that flew around Furinkan High, the middle Tendo had no interest in others of her gender (though she didn’t try to stop the rumors, either—lipstick lesbianism was actually quite profitable when one knew how to exploit it). Thus, the news that she was now bisexual was going to take some getting used to, though given the fact that the three genies would probably be alone in the bottle for long stretches of time, physical attraction to them probably was going to be relatively beneficial.

But she could worry about that later; for the moment, she was more interested in figuring out what she could do with her magic. As it turned out, the answer was “a hell of a lot.” The basics of genie magic were quite intuitive: if you wanted something, you summoned it, and it appeared in front of you. Nabiki wasn’t quite sure how this worked yet, but she figured that the library would have something that explained all the mechanics.

Thus she found herself sitting in a leather armchair in the multi-purpose room, a stack of books piled on a small table to her left. As expected, many of the library’s titles concerned the various minutiae of djinn magic; the broad range of subjects spoke to the great depth and subtleties djinn magic was capable of (not to mention the huge amount of free time genies obviously had to study and write all those things down). Nabiki had pulled out a few beginning titles that seemed interesting: Djinn Magic for Dummies, So Now What?: A Guide for the Neophyte Djinni, 1,000,001 Things to Do When You’re Stuck in a Bottle, Superfreak: How Magic Can Give New Meaning to the Word “Kink”, that sort of thing. She’d even managed to find a book about computer programming called Djinn Magic and the Master PC, but as she’d never heard of that particular operating system before, she let that one be for the time being.

Still, given that she’d only been reading for less than an hour, she’d already learned quite a bit. Essentially, there were two varieties of djinn magic. First there was wish magic, which was basically the power genies used to grant wishes. Since Ahmed had already given them the basic rundown on how that worked, she focused instead on the second type: “practical” magic, which could be used to effect smaller physical changes in the material world, such as producing objects from the ether (as she’d seen Mihoshi do several times before), or changing one’s physical attributes. Though much of the technical terms went over her head, Nabiki still got the impression that the actual operation was as intuitive as wish magic, if not more so.

A quick summon of a mirror followed by a good fifteen minutes spent morphing her seemed to confirm this. Of course, exactly how large or permanent any such changes would be were largely determined by an individual genie’s ability, and as Nabiki hadn’t really tried anything before this, she wasn’t able to hold her face for very long before it returned to “normal.” On the plus side, however, the mirror’s existence seemed to be relatively stable, at least until she dismissed it back into the ether. Nabiki suspected that the fact that she was in her bottle had some effect on what she was able to do, but at the moment, she decided to hold off on further reading. Theory could come later.

Right now, she just wanted something that resembled her former life. She headed upstairs to the living room, plopped down on the enormous couch in front of the TV, summoned a remote control and a bowl of popcorn, and started channel surfing. However, this was stopped short as she realized what the first channel actually was: an automated channel that told the viewer about the universe that the bottle was physically existing in, and Nabiki could tell that it wasn’t the one she came from.
