No Tendo?: Who Knows? [Episode 198015]

"Marmalade skies?" asked Ranma, looking up.

"NCC-170," said the woman soldier. "It does look like orange marmalade doesn't it? It's caused by particles in the upper atmosphere that-"

Ranma tuned the woman out. He didn't speak technobabble. He took a couple of quick hops. "Heavier gravity huh?"

"What?" asked the woman. "Well, yes, but it's only 1.2 Earth gravities."

"Cool, 20% more workout from the same time," responded Ranma.

"You know," said the old guy sitting on a rock, "he's definitely got an attitude I wouldn't expect from a Japanese schoolkid."

"Wouldja expect it from the Heir of a martial arts school?" said Ranma, punching another rock, which cracked under the impact.

"Maybe," said the older guy. "So about this NCC-170?"

"Oh," said the woman, checking her clipboard. "Mainly silicates, roughly 50% of the planet is quartz or similar materials. This is a tectonically stable region but a desert. There's some areas with plant life, no appreciable animal life, but those areas are less stable."

"Oh? The Predators turned up something? Fishing spots?" asked the older guy.

"No animal life, at least not so we've seen. Oxygen content's a bit high though, and we're having trouble with the particulates getting into mechanical systems," said an engineer as he walked by with a large coil of cable.

"So, no fishing?" asked the older guy.

"No," said the technician.

"So what do you want me and Pop for?" asked Ranma. "This some kinda five year mission to explore strange new worlds, seek out new civilizations, boldly goin' where nobody has gone before?"

"Something like that," admitted the older guy.

"Sounds better than going through a Japanese high school," admitted Ranma.

"I hope it goes this easy with your half-sister," said the older guy.

"Ami? Ami's coming?" asked Ranma, the indifference falling away to a certain eagerness. "I ain't seen her in at least five years."

"You've met her?" asked the woman.

"Briefly," said Ranma. "For some reason, her Mom has a bone or two to pick with my old man. Not that that's terribly uncommon. So how's this translation effect working? I'm not too bad at English, but I ain't THIS good."
