The best way to hide from a helicopter is to jump into a narrow alleyway. Which was exactly what Ranma did. Quickly picking one of the two available directions, he ran for it, hoping that he wasn't running into a group of footsoldiers.
Orion quickly realized that something was wrong. “Where are you going? The school is in the other direction!”
Ranma scoffed. “There ain't no way a girl can destroy something that big.”
“How do you plan on stopping that then?”
The sound of large metal blades continued chopping through air. Even if the helicopter couldn't find the right angle to shoot...both of them prayed that it wasn't going to launch a missile anytime soon and bring the adjacent building down on them...
...it was able to follow them somehow.
“I'll tell you after it stops chasing us!”
[11:23 AM]
The sound of rotor blades receded in the distance.
From within a large crowd, Ranma slowly breathed a sigh of relief. “Finally managed to lose it.”
Orion was still wary. “They're persistent.” He commented, referring to the Mishima grunts that were currently picking their way through the crowd. “You need a disguise.”
[12:04 PM]
A pigtailed boy skidded sideways three meters as he struggled to turn a corner without losing much speed. He sprung forward and sprinted before he sprung forward and dashed down the street. Looking up, he saw a stream of water start to fall from the 5th story of an apartment.
He dashed right for it.
Right before they arrived, the water suddenly rocketed toward the floor as if gravity had suddenly increased in that very spot.
~Splash~
Ranma skidded to a halt and stared down at the damp puddle on the floor.
“How hard is it to find cold water anyway, Moses?” Orion finally asked in a serious tone of voice as he jumped out from under Ranma's arm. It was strange, restaurants were closed because the city's water mains had been damaged in some freak accident involving a rogue demolition mech. There were no puddles on the ground from the hot sun. The canals were dry for some unknown reason.
And when the lake went so far as to split in two when Ranma tried to jump in, Orion had a new nickname for his soldier.
Ranma jumped onto the roof to bring himself closer to the gods. “Dammit!” he hollered at the sky. And then, as if the very gods were taunting him, dark clouds suddenly collected in the sky and it started to rain...
About a kilometer away. Easily visible from the rooftops.
Ranma could cover the distance in less than two minutes, but he wasn't even going to try. How stupid did they think he could be?
In answer, the rain stopped right when he shifted a foot in that direction.
"Graaah!"
There had to be some water somewhere nearby! he frantically thought as he quickly jumped to the ground. He thought he had heard a distant thup-thup.
Right when he was about to give up and do something else, he happened to look up.
There!
An old lady was watering her front walk the traditional way. Ranma didn't know why, but he knew that he could count on the old lady.
“?” Orion arrived just in time to watch Ranma run off.
10 meters away, the granny looked up. And then she shrieked and threw her arms into the air. That very same motion threw her off balance...
Ranma ignored the ladle and leapt for the water-filled wooden bucket...
...Orion watched as the old lady's foot comically flew into the air as she slipped on her own walk.
...he was too late. The pigtailed boy cursed as he slowly picked himself off of the ground, bone-dry. The puddle disappeared right before his very eyes. With a grunt of frustration, he stood up and dusted himself off. Then he turned around.
...
“Hey, you okay?”
[12:16 PM]
“This is all your fault,” the granny accused, striking the pigtailed boy over the head several times with a cane as he carried her toward the nearest hospital. Ranma ignored the strikes upon his head as a more pressing concern made him sweat bullets.
He was currently being followed by a large group of police officers and company members, all of whom were holding really big guns. To top it off, the winds raged wildly around him as a giant military vehicle hovered right above his spot.
They were just waiting for him to drop the granny.
How he was going to get out of this?
An explosion suddenly rocked a nearby office building and the nearby pedestrians suddenly started screaming and running as bits of glass fell like rain. Those that had been following him immediately broke off to combat the more immediate threat. Even the chopper moved in to help.
Ranma was about to follow them when...
“My grandson moves faster than you and he's only got one leg!” the old hag screeched.
The cane struck his head again.
Ranma glared angrily at the ground. Where was the hospital anyway?
On a somewhat unrelated note, some higher-up had the bright idea that Mithril was responsible for this latest incident.
An accusation that no one denied actually. Because a bigger question immediately appeared: who, or what, was Mithril?
Nothing came up, and the whistleblower who had almost revealed the existence of the mercenary organization to the general public was embarrassed and forced to apologize. The people quickly lost interest in the matter.
