The students of Furinkan knew something was wrong with their resident super-powered martial artist, one Saotome Ranma.
First off: he was wearing a uniform. He’d never worn a uniform. Ever. And, much to the grief of the male population of Furinkan High, he looked more bad-ass in it then anyone had any right to.
Second: the distinguishing pigtail was gone, replaced with a ponytail. A ponytail that made him look even more bad-ass then the new uniform alone. Once again, the male population was in much grief; bad enough the bastard had four hot girls chasing after him, but now that he looked so frickin’ COOL, he was going to have THEIR girlfriends swooning over him!!! What the FUCK, man?!?
Third: his fights that morning had been BRUTAL. And that bit when he faced off against Kuno… it would have been okay if he just looked the part of the bad-ass but stayed his old dumb self, but he had to go and BE bad-ass, now, too! Wasn’t it already bad enough that he was physically nigh untouchable already? Now he also had the attitude to match!
Fourth: he didn’t fall asleep in class, as was his wont. Instead, he was paying attention, and even taking copious notes. He didn’t answer any questions, though, but that just gave him the “quiet smart guy” aura along with the “bad-ass mutha” aura… a deadly combination, to say the least. The male population of Furinkan gave as one a mental wail of despair as they watched most of the female population give this new Ranma the same appraising looks he’d received when he first arrived… only more intense. A LOT more intense. Like-a-starving-man-eyeing-a-buffet intense.
It just wasn’t fair!!!
Of course, there was ONE good point, at least: where literally leaping buildings in a single bound and shrugging off titanium-alloy-denting punches was an impossibility for them, being able to exude that bad-ass aura just might be within their respective ranges. All they had to find out was what Ranma had done, and somehow duplicate it using much less extreme measures (oh, c’mon! It was obvious he probably did something impossible to be able to change like he did! He always does)! Then their love lives would be safe! But who to go to for details…?
Nabiki suddenly felt a shiver go down her spine; she had just gotten that feeling that told her she was about to make a LOT of money. No doubt thanks to Ranma’s little morning show. She made a mental note to thank him later, if her hunch proved correct.
Of course, not everyone was of the same mind about the new Ranma. Akane was of the firm belief that he was being a womanizing jerk again. This was another attempt of Ranma to get even more girls, she just knew it! And what was worse, he had corrupted Yuka and Sayuri! They were giving him that star-struck look all the other girls were giving him. How dare that jerk draw her friends into his perverted schemes!!! She swore that as soon as lunchtime came, there was going to be a reckoning!
Ukyo, on the other hand, was more worried about her Ranchan then annoyed. This was NOT the boy she fell in love with (well, fell in love with, sought vengeance after, then fell in love with again, really, but… eh). Where was her sweet, clueless fiancé? This other person wearing Ranma’s skin was about as far from Ranma as night was from day. Something was up, and, come lunch time, she was going to find out what it was!
And so it was that, as soon as the lunch bell rang, most of the student body went rushing to Nabiki for info on this new Ranma, and how he had made such a radical change in his personality in just one weekend.
Akane and Ukyo, on the other hand, made their way to Ranma’s usual eating spot, one intending to do some pounding with her trusty Mallet-sama, while the other intending to drag out the truth, come hell or high water.
Now if only Ranma had actually been there when they arrived…
While the school was getting its daily dose of chaos, Ranma…
