Ranma saw his life prior to the Great Will as being floundering around in ignorance and without direction, suffering for the Art and the whims of a destiny that was uncaring at best.
In other words, he had it pretty much right.
So he used the Great Will in the instance before it would be removed from him. He still loved the Art, but now he would have a new chance. A better chance. He could be a great martial artist but also have a life that meant something!
Though using the Great Will, he also determined that others had suffered as well. So when he fixed his prior... mistakes, he fixed other things about them as well.
Now they could do without him, and he could go on and take pride in something other than how much abuse he could take. Because he would be Ranma Saotome, martial artist and __________________.
