Naru was more than a little peeved when she returned home and summoned the genies from their bottle. “Alright, Blondie, you’ve got some explaining to do.”
“What do you mean?” Mihoshi asked innocently.
“I asked you to fix Umino’s eyesight.”
“And I did. Why? Didn’t it work?”
“Oh, his eyes work—in fact, they almost work too well. His entire field of vision is constantly in focus.”
“I know! Isn’t it great?”
“But that’s not normal!”
“You didn’t ask for normal vision; you asked for perfect vision. So that’s what I gave him.”
“‘Perfect’ means 20/20, not superhuman!”
“Um, please don’t take this the wrong way, but I wouldn’t exactly call human vision ‘perfect.’ I mean, you guys don’t even have everything in focus at once, plus your night vision isn’t very good either.”
“Wait… are you saying that Umino has night vision now too?”
“Uh huh. He should even be able to access infrared vision if he really concentrates.”
“Great. What else does he have? X-ray vision perhaps?”
“Uh… no. I didn’t think of that.”
Naru let out a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness.”
“But he should be able to see through disguise magic,” Mihoshi added.
“What’s disguise magic?” came the suspicious reply.
“I’m not sure,” Nabiki said, “but something tells me that it’s magic that’s used to keep people from recognizing you. You know, like a disguise.”
“That’s right,” Mihoshi chirped. “It’s standard issue with most magical girl transformations.”
“Magical girl? You mean like Sailor Moon?” Naru asked.
“I guess.”
“So you’re saying that Umino is going to be able to figure out who Sailor Moon is?”
“Assuming that he already knows her in her normal form, sure, why not?”
“But… couldn’t that get him in trouble?”
“Maybe. I guess it depends on what the Senshi do. But they’re nice people, and I’m sure your boyfriend is too. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
“Emphasis on shouldn’t,” Nabiki added.
“If there’s one thing we don’t need right now, it’s more complications,” Rei said to the small group of students assembled at the Crown Fruit Parlor. The Inner Senshi were meeting to discuss the latest news that Rei had about the unidentified magic—well, except for Usagi, who’d been spending a lot of time with Mamoru recently.
“Surely it isn’t that bad,” Ami said in an attempt to reason with the grumpy miko.
“We’re under attack from these Dead Moon Circus weirdoes, the Outers are who knows where, Minako still can’t transform, and to top it all off, we have to find yet another mystic crystal before the bad guys do. How exactly is it ‘not that bad’?”
“Okay, okay, I get your point.”
“There’s not much point in dwelling on our problems,” Makoto said. “At least, not until we have a better idea of what to do about them.”
“Yeah,” Minako agreed, as she didn’t particularly want to dwell on the fact that she was the only one present who hadn’t been able to transform since the Pharaoh 90 incident. “So how about you tell us what’s going on?”
“There’s some sort of new magic at work now. I don’t know what it is; only that it’s absolutely nothing like what I’ve experienced before, the Dead Moon Circus included.”
“A new enemy?” Makoto asked.
“Maybe… like I said, I don’t know what it was.”
“But you’re not saying that it’s definitely evil,” Ami pressed. “It could be neutral.”
“It might even be from a potential friend,” Minako pointed out.
“With the luck we’ve been having, I doubt it,” Rei said.
“Still, what can we do about it?” Makoto asked.
“Well, I can try and find information about it using my Computer to track for the residual ether,” Ami offered.
“I’m going to assume that whatever you just said made sense,” Minako replied.
“Really, it is all we can do for the moment,” the blue-haired genius said. “Until we know more about it, I suggest we concentrate on what we know for certain is a threat.”
“You mean the Dead Moon Circus, right?”
“Naturally.”
