This had been intended so that Gendo would never have to worry about having to pick between the 'sporty girl' or the 'cute genius', among others.
He wasn't there though, and Ranma was, so he was kind of stuck at the moment. Things weren't going exactly as he'd thought that they would, and he now had to worry about a lot of issues. Right then, he just was thankful that they weren't about to lynch him... even if he did have this feeling that he was going to have a lot of stuff to worry about in the future.

It was easy to see that her Master would need some smoothing around the edges, but Michiru was looking forward to helping him do it.
Ranma looked down at all the expectant faces, and wondered about what he was going to do with them. After all, he hadn't exactly expected to have anyone turning to him for instruction, never mind hanging on every word. Besides, he didn't know what was supposed to happen beyond what already had. What he was aware of was that they weren't about to just 'go away', which meant that they were going to be hanging around for some time.
And if that was the case, there was one worry that he was going to have to face sooner than later.
When he had taken his son away on this training journey, Genma had thought that it would be a simple enough plan. In keeping his son from the coddling of maternal love, and the distraction of modern life, he'd figured that all that his boy's attention would be on the Art. Despite the willful nature of the boy, it had proven rather successful, as his heir had proven to be more than adequate in his skills. Sure, he had expected the boy to have to eventually settle down, but that wouldn't be for a few years yet, and so things like interest in the other gender would have been left for another time.
Upon seeing his son with a whole mass of pretty, willing, and affectionate girls, he was rather put out. Of course, he had no way of knowing that they were the transformed human girls who might have been involved with his son in another timeline. Instead, he had the mix of genuine parental concern that came from having girls around who would feel perfectly comfortable having intimate relations with his child as soon as the boy showed a sign of wanting it, along side the desire to have his son focus on nothing save for the Art.
"What the hell is this?!" the elder Saotome snapped. "What did you think you were doing?!"
The pigtailed boy merely glared at his father. "It ain't like I did anythin' on purpose! They just seem ta have decided ta all look ta me as their boss!"
"You've got to be kidding me!"
"Nope, and it's all your fault!"
"How did you come up with that idea?!"
"Simple. If ya hadn't had me in that buildin', then I wouldn't have hadta go where we were gonna meet," Ranma muttered.
