"The Atmospheric shield can be easily recharged by any of the Senshi, and working together we can expand it and give it enough stability to last thousands of years. If we are still alive at that point, we can recharge it, so keeping it going shouldn't be a problem. However, as Mina pointed out, we have a far more pressing problem..."
After thinking for a little bit, Hotaru asked Pluto, "Setsuna-momma, do we still need to eat while in Senshi form?"
Haruka scowled at Hotaru. "You shouldn't use her name while she's transformed!" Micheru also looked displeased with Hotaru. Hotaru shrunk in on herself at the rebuff.
Pluto shook her head. "It doesn't matter, Haruka. If we can't return to our home time, our secret identities won't matter, and if we somehow do get home, I trust Ranma to keep our secret."
Haruka and Micheru didn't look happy with this, but didn't argue. Hotaru looked relieved by Pluto's getting her off the hook.
Pluto turned to Hotaru, and said, "In answer to your question, of course we still need to eat in Senshi form. Why would you think otherwise?"
"Well, if you need to eat while transformed, how did you survive thousands of years at the Time Gate?"
"Well, it partially has to do with the way time flows at the gate, but mostly... I teleported to Earth whenever I needed to eat, sleep, or relieve myself, then returned to the Time Gate at the moment I left it."
"Oh."
Mina commented, "Well, that takes away some of her mystery, now doesn't it?"
Feeling things were getting a bit off track, Ranma spoke up. "So, I don't suppose anyone has any ideas on how we could either get home or get food in this time period...?"
Silence answered him, and the mood of those there grew somber, until...
"Wah! I don't want to starve to death!" Usagi cried, tears fountaining from her eyes.
"You wouldn't happen to be related to Soun Tendo, would you?" Ranma wondered.
"Huh?" Usagi responded through her tears.
After Usagi had been comforted enough to stop crying, Makoto said in a grim tone, "I hate to even suggest it... It won't help everyone, and it would only be delaying the inevitable... But..." She glanced around at everyone meaningfully, "we do have one potential source of food with us..." One could tell from her expression that she wasn't happy with the idea.
Haruka and Michuru nodded, and Haruka said, "You have a point."
Rei glared at Makoto, a look of outrage on her face. "How can you even suggest such a thing?!"
Ami looked a little green, and Hotaru both scared and confused, while Mina and Ranma were grimly thoughtful. Usagi was just confused.
Pluto commented, "The thought did occur to me, but as it would make that much of a difference in the end..."
Usagi glanced around at everyone, and asked, "What are you guys talking about?"
While everyone else tried to figure out how to break it to her gently, Haruka simply said, "Cannibalism."
Usagi paled, and said, "You're... kidding..."
Makoto said quickly, "I'm not saying we're going to start killing each other. It's just, if we can't find any way to save ourselves... Well, when one of us does die, it would be a way to allow the rest of the group to live a little bit longer..."
Usagi asked quietly, "But... what kind of a life would that be...? And for what - so we could live only a few days more...?"
Everyone was silent for a few moments, as they considered this.
Then Mina spoke up. "What about the Silver Crystal?"
Usagi blinked. "What? We can't eat the Silver Crystal. It can't create food, either - can it?" Usagi glanced over at Pluto, who shook her head.
Mina said excitedly, "No, but it can bring people back to life, and heal them of whatever killed them! Wouldn't that include starvation?"
Once again, all eyes turned to Pluto. "Yes... but of those present, only Usagi can use the Crystal - and the Crystal does not allow one to resurrect oneself. How would we prevent her from starving to death?"
Mina scratched her head. "Um..." She then said brightly, "Well, we were just discussing one possible food source...!"
Usagi's eyes widened. "Nuh-uh! No way!"
