Ranma’s Soulmate sighed to herself. Ranma was coming to Nerima, Tokyo. He would be the closest to her that he has ever been. But what should have been a reason for her to be happy had turned into a reason to fret. She had originally entertained daydreams of Ranma sneaking off to find her, of her sneaking him into her room, or the two getting away to meet somewhere. Now, however, she was worried about Ranma being honor bound to marry another. ‘How could the fates be so cruel to give me someone like Ranma, only to snatch him away again before we could ever get our own chance,’ she lamented silently. Tears threatened to fall, but she would not let them. How could she explain why she was crying to her family. They wouldn’t understand; no one could. And so with a heavy heart and her pain hidden well, she continued with what it was that she was doing.
Soun looked through his pile of mail, finding a postcard mixed in. Flipping the card over, he was elated to find the message it bore.
Hi,
Bringing Ranma from China.
-Saotome
Soun’s hand began to shake as he examined the postcard and read it again to see if his eyes were playing tricks on him. “Ranma? Coming here? Oh, how I’ve waited for this day!” Tears of joy began to trickle down his face.
Soun was so happy he felt like sharing this wonderful news with his family. ‘Won’t they be so pleased? They will get to finally meet their fiancé and the schools will be joined! Now to tell them the good news that one of them will be getting married. I wonder which of my babies will be the lucky girl?’
“Hey Kasumi! Nabiki! Akane!” When no one answered his call, Soun decided to go look for them. His first stop was the kitchen, where he found his eldest daughter, dressed in her usual house-dress. “Kasumi? Family meeting.” He then went to look for his other daughters without giving Kasumi a chance to respond. He finally found another one in her room, reading manga. “Nabiki? I have something to announce to the family. Come downstairs.” He tried to find his last daughter, but no matter where he looked he could not find Akane. “Where is that girl?”
Meanwhile, Akane was finishing up her jog and headed into the dojo to get in a workout of breaking bricks. Nabiki, who had volunteered to find Akane, finally wandered into the dojo as Akane finished her workout.
“There you go again, Akane. No wonder the boys at school think you are so weird.”
“Why should I care? Not everyone thinks the world revolves around those boys, Nabiki.”
“Well, hurry up. Father has something he wants to tell us.”
The girls sat down to hear their fathers announcement. However, one of them was also paying attention to her Soulmate. She was aware of Ranma arguing with his father, upset that his choice of fiancée was taken away from him. She hid her smile at the thought of Ranma escaping his father and marrying her instead.
Soun cleared his throat. “I suppose you are all wondering why I called you all together? I have an important announcement to make. Today, one of you will be meeting your fiancé.”
“Fiancé?” the girls chorused.
‘Oh no! Not me too’ Ranma’s Soulmate worried.
Over the link, she felt Ranma sending feelings of support. “Don’t worry. We’ll get through this together.” Ranma soothed the love of his life.
Soun continued, unaware of the silent dialog occurring in parallel. “Yes, the son of a very good friend of mine. The son’s name is Ranma Saotome.”
Shock echoed from both sides of the link.
“What? Did I hear that right?”
“Wait, you mean I actually get to marry you? Pops did something right for a change?”
However, at that moment, both felt a sudden sharp pain to Ranma’s head before his presence in the bond faded out. ‘I suppose Mr. Saotome clubbed Ranma on the head,’ sighed...
