However, he was also a martial arts master who had a keen ability to handle himself in battle. He understood a lot of the more esoteric details in the Art, and was perfectly capable of coming up with powerful and amazing moves. Thinking quickly was a skill that he'd honed for years, and he was someone who could take advantage of a situation on a moment's notice.
So, although he was something of a fool and an idiot, he wasn't quite stupid.
This came up as he recognized what several reels were there for. Right there they had cords set up to allow workers to tie up loads, and pull on weights when they became neccesary to move. Having that gave him an idea, and as he looked, he saw several spots were he could hang ropes from. Then came the rocks, which weren't exactly hard to come by, seeing as he was in a quarry.
With that in mind, he only had to work quickly to set up a rope 'net' that would work well enough. Cord was tied around sizable boulders, and was then looped over high and stable points that would allow him to heft the rocks into the air. Once he got it to a sufficient height, he'd tie it down, and set massive stone to swing like a pendulum, given the right impetus. That was given by the ropes that he strung along the tie off points, so that he only had to yank on one cord to get a collection of them going.
"Hah!" he laughed to himself. "I'd like to see the boy's face if he saw this set up!"
The fact that this was the sort of thing that Ranma had been afraid of didn't really seem to come into his thought process.
"Now, let's see this succeed," Genma murmured, and pulled the first cord.
Seeing as this resulted in him being surprised by a huge rock smacking him in the side, with the rest of the batch ready to follow suit, what followed would have to be censored for child viewership.
"You can't be serious," Shampoo muttered, staring down at her great grandmother. "Perhaps it just got knocked down in the shuffle."
Cologne merely gave her descendant a flat look. "Do you really think that I didn't think of that?"
"No, Great Grandmother."
"Exactly."
"It's just.... Who would be stupid enough to try to use a scroll like that?"
"Think about the great fools who have visited, and consider who might have had to hurry to use it."
"Genma Saotome."
"Now, that was easy, wasn't it, child?" the Matriarch asked, smiling wryly.
"Too easy. Just how does the man think that he'd get away with something like that?"
"Who knows? From what I could see, he is nothing more than a loud mouthed ingrate."
"Yes, but even if he doesn't get caught by whomever we send after him," the younger Amazon sighed, shaking her head, "he'll still get into a whole lot of trouble if he tries to use it."
"Exactly why you're going to get it back from him when you go to meet up with your friend."
"I am?"
"Who else is going there, besides the two of you?" Cologne murmured.
"Oh, I can see how good that is. But still, do we want to actually save that moron?"
"And who said anything about doing it for him?"
"Then...."
"We're trying to keep others out of the line of fire, like Ranma, and that wife he seems to be so fond of."
Shampoo nodded deeply with understanding and agreement, rather appreciating the sentiment, while:
