Naruto shook his head, after Team 7 took the cat back to the wife of the Fire Lord. He wasn’t sure if that was animal cruelty of not. He gave an amused laugh, as he thought about the mission Team 7 was going to take soon. They had to accompany a bridge builder to Wave Country.
“I better tell Scorpion,” Naruto muttered.
Naruto entered the basement of his apartment building and headed for the portal. As soon as he entered, he had what looked to be a wolfman growling in his face. Naruto jumped back and got ready to fight. The wolf features faded, revealing a man who had a somewhat darker complexion than Naruto and had red pain smeared on his face. The man giggles a bit and smirked at Naruto.
“Cool, wasn’t it,” the man said and broke into giggles. “ I am Nightwolf.”
“You are crazed,” Naruto gasped out.
“Ha. Scorpion wanted me to teach you to get in touch with you inner animal. I serve Coyote and can turn into a wolf. So to the nine-tail fox, coyotes and wolves will eat foxes,” Nightwolf said and broke into a giggling fit.
Naruto felt a bit nervous with this laughing lunatic near him. “Where is Scorpion?”
“He’s gathering information about some snake guy named Roach Mary or was it Orochimaru? At any rate, you need to talk to the fox and know who you really are. Now we can do things the slow way and take three months, but then you’d have to stay with me and endanger your training. Then there is the fast way.”
“I have a mission tomorrow,” Naruto said.
“Fast way it is then,” Nightwolf replied, as he tosses a clear pouch of some powder at Naruto
The next thing Naruto knew was blackness, as he choked a bit on the powder. Naruto looked around and saw he was in a cave and there was a large cage holding something. A clanging sound was heard, as a giant fox smashed itself against the bars.
“You idiot!” the fox growled. “Those beings are too dangerous to be around. I do not like being threatened with being a snack.”
“If you hadn’t attacked Konoha, then neither of us would be in this mess,” Naruto said.
The fox growled and looked at the ceiling of its prison. It closed its eyes and gave a sigh.
“I didn’t attack of my own free will. I was nothing more than a slave of the one who calls himself Madara Uchiha. If it wasn’t for those three that you have just met, I would not have told you that much. Those three scare me. One is a servant of beings that have the power to make me look like a mere cub. The other bears the legendary Dragon Medallion that makes his ice powers equal to my power over storms and then there is that laughing servant of Coyote,” the fox stated and gave a shudder as it thought about Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Nightwolf.
“All the pain and suffering that I have been put through was for no reason whatsoever?” Naruto asked.
“If the Forth Hokage had known about my being enslaved and went and killed Madara, then I would have left. I’d rather be on my mountain and killing any idiot that invades my home.”
“I though Madara was dead,” Naruto stated.
“He may be. It might be another Uchiha that has taken up the name.”
“So? What now?” Naruto asked.
“Now, I’m going to help you out when your life is in danger and give you some advice when needed. You may face the one calling himself Madara. However, do not rely on my power or advice. You will lose both if you ever get into a Mortal Kombat.”
“You are not going to try and trick me into freeing you?” Naruto asked.
“Kid? That Scorpion person ripped apart Onaga the Dragon King. He’d easily kill me. Call me a coward, but I’ll stay here until there is a chance I can be freed without being enslaved by the Sharingan once more.”
Naruto sat down and stared at the fox and thought about everything he had learned before he met Scorpion.
“You won’t mind if I tell Scorpion about what you have told me?” Naruto asked.
The fox gave a growling laugh and stared at Naruto. “Brat, I expect you to. Scorpion will probably get to the truth and deal with Madara himself. The Sharingan has some problems dealing with the dead that walk.”
The cage swirled and vanished, as Naruto sat up in the middle of the training area in the Nexus.
“So? Did you have a nice talk?” Nightwolf asked.
“It was a slave.” Naruto whispered.
“A slave?”
Naruto relayed what the nine-tailed fox told him to Nightwolf. Nightwolf stopped laughing and had a pensive look on his face.
“Naruto, if the fox was controlled like that then it won’t be Scorpion that will go after this Madara creep. It will be me. I can not abide nature being used and abused like that.”
“I thought you didn’t take anything seriously,” Naruto said.
Nightwolf gave an amused snort. “A mask I wear to keep people off guard. They look at the giggling and the strange antics and make bad judgment calls on what I will do.”
“Right. At any rate, I have that mission to accompany a bridge builder tomorrow.”
“That is going to be more than what you have bargained for,” Scorpion’s voice stated.
Naruto took a shuddering breath as Scorpion faded into view.
“What do mean?”
“Zabuza and his apprentice Haku were hired by Gato to kill the bridge builder,” Scorpion replied. “Zabuza is a very tough fighter and Haku manipulates ice. The bridge builder wants to open up a new route to break free of Gato’s enslavement of his people.”
“So, we have to kill this Zabuza and his apprentice?” Naruto asked.
“Maybe. Maybe not. Gato hired Zabuza, but after your team and Zabuza’s have pounded on each other, Gato and his mercenaries will show up and kill both groups or whoever wins,” Scorpion stated. “Then he’ll increase the taxes on the people who live under him and stick that bridge builder’s head up on a pike as a warning to others to be grateful that they can drink water and have a single slice of bread each day and not try for anything more.”
Naruto blinked and stared and Scorpion. “You’re joking about that.”
Scorpion shook his head. “No. Gato is a petty tyrant. If you can find the proof, you might be able to bring Zabuza and Haku in as two recruits for Konoha. Now, I'll go back to looking for the roach”
