Akane's Reset: Meeting at Furinkan [Episode 20788]

by Kestral

Akane knew that Nabiki was scrutinizing her more than usual but shrugged it off.

Nabiki couldn't believe in cursed dolls, ghost cats, or any other number of things until you rubbed her face in them - and that was after she'd gotten used to Jusenkyo curses. Figuring out that her sister had time travelled? Not likely.

The utter calm from being dead had mostly worn off and it was a struggle not to slip back into old patterns of behavior. She knew better now - Shampoo was not an idiot. Kodachi was a bit crazy still but after their mutual experience had become desperate for a friend and to break her own patterns of behavior. Ukyo was nowhere to be seen yet, but Akane's opinion of Ukyo had changed somewhat as well. Yes, Ukyo could be awfully impulsive/obsessive and if things hadn't changed - could have gone off the deep end later on.

Going to school for the third day (first day commencement speeches, second day meeting Kodachi) proved a little interesting. Kodachi was waiting for her, and gently chided Akane for not coming earlier.

It seemed that Kuno was trying to chase boys down and bully them into going after Akane anyway. His motive, Kodachi felt, was that none of the boys would be able to defeat Akane but they could wear her down to where Kuno could defeat her.

Akane nodded, walked up to Tatewaki Kuno as he was threatening some junior, and severely thrashed him.

It felt a little strange to be defending boys from a perverted bully, but hitting Tatewaki Kuno just felt so right.

During lunch, Akane introduced Kodachi to Yuka and Sayuri. Both of whom knew something was up with Akane - and were surprised that despite Kodachi's reputation that she wasn't a raving lunatic. A bit odd, but then she was a Kuno.

All four were quite aware of Nabiki trying to casually eat her lunch and ignore them but continually inch closer so as to overhear them.

"My father will eventually return to this school," said Kodachi as she tried to find a "safe" topic. "He used to be the headmaster and is still listed as such on the rolls. He is... not well."

"Ah, your brother takes after him?" Akane asked, trying to figure out where this conversation was going and not reveal anything herself.

"In a way. My father fancies himself a barber and is infatuated with Hawaiian cultural kitsche. It is likely that he will attempt to bring a rather bizarre form of discipline to this school," said Kodachi. "I decided to transfer here because I found myself slipping into old patterns of conduct I no longer wished to continue."

"So you want to come up with a battle plan in case he wants us to shave our heads or something?" Akane mused. There were more things they could preplan than just Ranma's arrival.

"Indeed," agreed Kodachi. "I will likely try for the school's Rhythmic Gymnastics team, but... oh dear. Here comes my deranged brother again."

Akane nodded and picked up the remains of her lunch. "Time's nearly up. Let's say we discuss this again tomorrow."
