Darksouled: Awakening (DARK) [Episode 211625]

by Eternal Heart

There was only so much that could be done, so much that could be withstood. That constant, consuming pain tearing through every part of them, as their souls wailed in simultaneous anguish. And every pain, every bite, every clawing, a cry of pain resounded, both heard and unheard as it drove the two souls together into that deeper, consuming agony. Until at last, finally they could withstand no more.

With a yowling scream, the air above the pit suddenly chilled, before falling into silence as the mewling cries of the felines in the pit, had cut off in a sudden burst of gurgling animalistic screams. At the pit’s edge, Genma Saotome looked on, something between worry and anticipation written on his face as he cautiously approached the pit. Carefully he would lean forward, staring just a bit down into the darkness, trying to catch some sort of idea, some possibility of what had transpired inside, a pang of fear that perhaps his son hadn’t been strong enough to actually learn the technique.

For a moment, all he could see was an inky, all consuming darkness, a shadow, to which the moon’s light couldn’t quite penetrate. Cautiously he pulled back, before moving back to his campfire, and drawing a half lit log, holding it in a fearful grip like a torch. Again, with that edge of wariness, a feeling he would swear was only out of caution, not that gnawing sense of dread that ate at him from within, he advanced back to that pit. The make shift torch extended, he would peer over the ledge, staring down, looking into the depths as they slowly began to illuminate.

Something chose that moment to race up from the pit’s depths, a flash of movement as he felt a wet spray splashing across his face, and across his gi. With a startled yelp, he dropped the log, letting it fall down into the pit as he stared at the shape that arched over him through red spotted glasses. A writhing mess of shadowed tendrils coiled about the shape as it paused, a glinting of crimson, glowing in its eyes as its path lay littered by small splatters of glistening thick crimson.

Blood, finally assailed at Genma’s senses as the sticky mess on his face, on his clothes registered. A look of horror on his face, the portly man stared at the creature, as those writhing, spiked tendrils pulled back from its face, long enough to reveal his son. His son, with his features twisted into a savage, feral snarl, his eyes burning like blood red fire as his teeth seemed almost pointed in the moonlight. Then with a piercing yowl, the creature was off, bounding off into the night, leaving behind a shrinking trail of blood in its wake.

Falling back in shock, the man found his palms pressing against the edge of the pit, feeling his fingers digging against it before instinctively he looked over his shoulder down into its depths. Immediately, he wished he hadn’t. The pit had turned into a small pool of blood, gore and fur, bodies torn asunder. The flickering light of the torch high lighted dead eyes, jaws hung open with cooling limp tongues stuck out. With a fearful look, he scrambled back again before looking once more in the direction he son had vanished.

Well, that hadn’t gone as he’d planned.
