A frown grew on Sailor Mercury's face as she noticed the electromagnetic disturbance moving slowly southeast. It seemed even more likely it was a storm; it also seemed they would have to deal with whatever it was.
She wasn't surprised when a few minutes later, Sailors Venus and Jupiter contacted her.
"It's a thunderstorm alright," Jupiter confirmed.
Mercury said with concern, "And judging by my readings it's headed our way. I don't suppose you can see any shelter nearby?"
"No such luck."
"Then you should probably start heading back; you'll need all the time you have to get here before the storm. Keep the line open, though - I think we need a group conference."
"Right," Venus said.
Mercury turned to Rei and raised her voice. "Rei? I hate to interrupt your meditations, but we have a situation here."
Rei sighed, opened her eyes, got up and brushed off her robes. She walked over to Mercury and asked with a combination of irritation and concern, "What is it?"
"There's a thunderstorm coming our way."
"A thunderstorm?" Rei said skeptically with a raised eyebrow.
"I know that's not much of a worry in the city, but keep in mind we don't have any shelter here."
"Right," Rei said, growing serious.
"I'm contacting the others now; we need to discuss what we are going to do."
Mercury turned to her computer to do just that; Rei opened her own communicator not wanting to have to talk over Mercury's shoulder.
Once everybody was connected, Mercury explained the situation.
Sailor Moon complained, "Why did it have to be a thunderstorm?"
Rei chided her, "Never mind that! We need to figure out what we're going to do.
"I know that, Rei!" Moon whined.
Using her role as the gatherer of information to move things along, Mercury asked, "Has anyone found any shelter we could use? It doesn't need to be something permanent - just something to keep away the worst of the wind and the rain."
Pluto shook her head. "I'm sorry, but no."
"Nothing," Uranus said.
"Nope," Venus said.
Moon said, "We haven't found any caves yet, but there were a couple places where cliffs and rocks would block the rain from some directions..."
Mercury said with concern, "There weren't any large tall rocks or anything nearby, were there? It wouldn't be as dangerous as being near a tall tree, but we still don't want to be attracting lighting to us."
"I didn't notice," Moon admitted.
Rei rolled her eyes. "That figures."
"Hey, I wasn't looking for spots to take shelter from thunderstorms!" Moon protested. Switching to "command mode", Moon continued, "Ranma and I will go back and take a look at those spots and decide on which one to use. Ami, how much time do we have?"
"It's hard to say; it's not like I have any satellite maps or records to judge by, and thunderstorms are hard to predict as it is. I'm guessing about an hour before it reaches your location, but I could be off by quite a bit."
Moon frowned. "Ooh... It's going to be tight. Everyone, you better start heading in this general direction. I'll let you know exactly where to go once we know for sure, but you don't have time to wait."
Most everyone nodded, and there was a chorus of verbal agreement.
Moon asked, "Anything else?" When no one responded, she said, "Alright, let's get going," and signed off. Everyone else closed their lines, then the exploratory teams began following the communicators' tracking signal to Moon's position (much like when they had to deal with a youma).
Mercury closed some files, then shut her computer (leaving it on standby) and turned to Rei.
Rei had already set her communicator to track Moon, and started to walk in that direction. Rei asked, "Well, are you coming?"
Mercury started to follow, but upon looking at the purple-tinted dome surrounding them, she said, "Wait!"
"What?!" Rei asked irritably.
"At least one of us needs to make a personal atmospheric shield."
"Oh," Rei said sheepishly.
Mercury asked, "Are you going to transform and make your own, or do you want to share mine?"
Rei looked out at the rocky terrain. She didn't look forward to making that trek in high-heels, but she didn't want to admit that, either; nor did she feel like having to rely on anyone else, even Mercury. "I'll transform," she said.
Rei pulled out her transformation pen. "Mars Crystal Power, Make Up!" Fire swirled around her then faded away to reveal Super Sailor Mars.
Not waiting for further discussion, Mercury called out, "Mercury Power - Personal Atmospheric Shield!" Mars followed this with her own "Mars Power - Personal Atmospheric Shield!"
Their shields in place, Mercury and Mars headed east to meet up with Moon.
