For a place of utter quiet, it felt rather stately, with thick and sturdy wood making up structures that looked rather like care and craftsmanship had gone into their construction. Not a single weed rose up between the stones of the walkway, but trees of great age dotted the edges of the path. A steady hand had been taken to painting the various walls, though age was apparent in the little details, like the simple design, and the fading color of the place.
The setting sun did stain the area though, in deep reds, pale golds, and burnished oranges, almost like the ending day was bleeding its final moments away. Breezes were giving way to chills, as any warmth that might have been given to the waking hours was being slowly stolen back. Darkness spilled across every surface, pooling where the light was blocked by staid structures that were ignoring the passing of the hours much as they had for the time since they had been built.
Only the sound of shoes upon the stone could be heard, and legs that would have been complimented by high heels and a miniskirt strode across the walkway like a bird gliding over water. Almost as if to make her glow, the light lit up the girl as she moved, brightening up her gray school uniform. But it could only do so from the direction of the setting sun, and the shade darkened the other side, with her shadow reaching long and deep for the distance. Yet, fear did not show on her face as she came to a stop in the small courtyard, the soft wind stirring her hair like a silken curtain of black satin.
Rei Hino could feel that this was not a place of light and peace, but then she had not expected it to be. However, there were things that had to be done that needed more abilities to be handled than a normal human could manage, but were not part of Senshi business. No, even if there were monsters and creatures that came to conquer the Earth through time and space, there were things that had been much closer to humanity for ages before any rebirths had come about. Beings that lurked in the shadows waited for the unwary and unknowing, and they were not all simply looking to play tricks.
That was where she was to come in.
Long before she had learned of who she had been in another life, she had been trained to be one who stood between humanity and the supernatural. In this day and age, most of those duties might have become rote and mere ceremony, but not only did she believe in it, but knew that it actually worked. For all of those who merely did the rituals due to a sense of obligation, there were some who actually did have the power that came with such training, and she was one of them.
As such, she was to face that which would straddle this realm and the next. Beings of myth, legend, and rumor were out there, and people would stumble across them every so often. She had to be there to stop whatever chaos that would bring, as that was a calling to her as much as her other role was. And yet, she could not call upon her friends as this was not of the sort of danger that they'd faced together. Instead, this was about keeping a balance, and she aimed to do so with as much grace and skill as she could manage.
With the sound of flapping wings and echoing caws, a pair of birds fluttered to the ground, landing to positions that made it look as if they were attending to her, while:
