Correct, though you are understating the scale.
"What exactly does that MEAN?" asked Ranma.
You would be responsible for defending your planet and solar system from attacks and invasions, but could also be called on to defend other civilizations from similar threats. Asteroid impacts and other large-scale natural disasters would also be within your area, either preventing them from happening or assisting in the recovery thereof.
"That's all? No selling of soul, requirement that I get engaged, or something else?" asked Ranma.
Nothing of that sort is planned. Wait one moment. One of my colleagues ducked out when you mentioned a female-spousal-candidate. It may be nothing though. He/she/it suffers from allergies.
"I figured," said Ranma. "I'll take it anyway."
