Mainly Jor-El's 'ghost' was speaking for the benefit of the adults, though three other children also listened.
"The House of El is a long and distinguished one," said the transparent Jor-El. "There was Val-El the famous explorer. Sul-El, who built the first telescope well over one hundred thousand Earth years ago. Tala-El, who crafted the first constitution of its kind - similar in many ways to your Magna Carta. Hatu-El, who was our world's version of your Thomas Edison. Gam-El, who was the father of modern architecture of Krypton. El is also the symbol for 'hope' within the Kryptonian language, and it is our hope that Kal will go on to continue the tradition of great things."
"Not to mention continue the line," mumbled a briefly visible ghostly image of a woman.
"Lara, the oldest is SEVEN," said Jor-El.
"So, can you help me?" asked Mrs Tendo as the circle of light around her went off.
"The diagnostics are still working," said Jor-El. "The damage is widespread and the cancerous material can be removed. The question now is whether the genetic code that produced the cancers can be safely and completely eradicated. Another few minutes for that answer."
"Krypton was an advanced civilization, though long ago we abandoned research into space travel. Nanotechnology, quantum architecture, cloning and genetic engineering were the apex of our technologies. This and a thousand other things your world hasn't even the words to describe yet," continued Jor-El. "Yet we were unable, by custom and law, to save ourselves."
"Yet here you are," said Soun, looking about him with concern.
"Some small part of Krypton may yet survive," agreed Jor-El. "Which is why Genma was contacted by myself, and Lara contacted Nodoka. With their help, it became possible."
Genma nodded and managed to look somewhat prideful.
"What about this training room? Can I practice there?" asked Akane.
"Kal-El's training room has a 50g field, which might be a bit much for you," understated Jor-El.
"I can take it," boasted Akane. "I'm gonna be a martial artist too, ya know."
