Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu hovered encouragingly around Akane as she lay on her bed nursing her pride and much swatted rear end. She grumbled discontentedly.
“You really hate loosing to a boy, don’t you?” Nabiki noted from the bedside chair. She was not exactly paying her respects.
“I didn’t loose!” Akane emphatically denied.
“He pinned you to a wall with his wood crafting,” Nabiki argued remorselessly, “and kept you from burning free with his water craft.”
“It wasn’t a fair match!” Akane protested. “He cheated. I wasn’t ready; and anyway, he’s such a pervert,” she concluded.
“That’s nice,” Nabiki purred.
“What was that?” Akane demanded.
“Oh. Hum, nothing. I just… I take it you’ve gone sour on father’s little arrangement, then?”
“Well…” Akane hedged. “Harumph! Who would be interested in that butt swiping jerk, anyway?”
“Some girls would,” Nabiki murmured.
“What?”
“Erm, that is, aside from that. And even then… Well… You know…”
“Stop it, Nabiki,” Akane snapped.
“Uhm, what?” Nabiki batted her eyes innocently.
“You’re earth crafting, Nabiki,” Akane denounced. “Stop trying to keep me interested in that pervert. It’s not going to work. I’m not at all interested in that stupid hunk– Just stop it!”
Nabiki blinked in confusion, for once innocent of her sister’s accusations. That was exactly the opposite of her intentions and she was not earth crafting at all. ‘But that would mean…’ A sly smirk slipped on her lips, and Nabiki stood up. “What ever, Akane. I’ll leave you to simmer on your own then.”
Akane threw a pillow at the door as it closed behind her sister. “Why am I always surrounded by perverts and idiots?” she asked her faeries.
Kasumi was in the kitchen, slicing watermelon apart with quick, deft strokes of her knife. The blade simply slid through the rind like, well, a metal-crafted blade, really.
Nabiki looked around. “Where is … ahem. Where are Daddy and that old geezer?”
“Father and Mister Saotome stayed in the hot tub too long,” Kasumi explained diplomatically. “They are sleeping it off.”
“They ‘stayed in the hot tub’ too long?” Nabiki repeated, noting the polite frost in her sister’s tone and remembering the plan to raid the wine cellar. Ah, their father was due for a scolding for over indulgence, it seemed. Again. “Oh. I see. Well then, where’s Ranma?”
“Oh, he’s cooling off from the match,” Kasumi observed, her frosted tone melting. “I had my Scarlet warm him a nice warm bath after I cleaned up after our fathers.”
“That’s nice,” Nabiki commented with feigned disinterest. “What do you think of him?”
“Well… he’s such an interesting boy, don’t you think?” Kasumi stated pleasantly as she sorted pieces of melon onto plates.
“I doubt we’ll be bored any time soon, that much is certain,” Nabiki agreed dryly.
