Vincent Law, a.k.a. Ergo Proxy, a.k.a. the proxy of death, had been observing the Creators as they went about their business for a month now. He had finally come to understand what had motivated Proxy One, with the despair over the programmed destruction of all the proxies and recreated humans, but he was taking a cautious approach in the vengeance against the Creators.
However, the Creators didn't act like they were the Lords of Creation. They seemed uncertain of what to do. They sent out heavily armed patrols accompanied by autoraves exploring the surrounding ruins. From what little he managed to overhear while evading detection, he heard them wonder what must have happened as they came across ruins from the very ancient to the very new, the latter including fresh bodies. Every so often he would hear them wondering what sort of calamity must have been sent to Earth by the "gods". Even the settlements erected by the Creators were much more primitive than expected with their tents and makeshift buildings.
All this made Vincent wonder if the Creators truly did not know what they were doing. Perhaps they had forgotten that they were the Creators, or maybe they were not the Creators at all. He needed to know more, which was why he had changed his appearance to one of them and was infiltrating one of their settlements.
