"It was decided by the convocation of gods of demons at the convention," said Ereus.
"But how?!" asked Eitarou.
"Poker night," said Ereus.
"WHY?!" asked Eitarou.
"Because of The Plan," said Ereus mysteriously.
"And all I've got is this?!" asked Eitarou, holding a paper ward up.
"That," agreed Ereus.
"What is it, anyway?" asked Eitarou.
"A 'Protection From Hapxier Ten Foot Radius' ward," said Ereus quietly.
The Eitarou began laughing maniacally was expected and consequently disregarded.
"Ah," said a guy in a high school student uniform, running up to Ranma on the street. "Are you Ranma Saotome?"
"Uh, yeah," agreed Ranma.
"Oh good," said the boy. "I'm Rin Tsuchimi. I've got a message for you. And them."
"It's Armaggedon, Ragnarok, whatever you want to call it," said Rin. "The barriers between the three worlds are fading and will completely collapse in about seven hundred years."
"Seven hundred years?" asked Ranma.
"For whatever reason, they apparently think of that as practically imminent," said Rin. "So they're arranging this setup rather than go to an actual war or anything like that. In some ways its like a contest."
"Contest?" asked Ranma, scratching his head. "By selling themselves into slavery?"
"No, did you read your contract? It's not the standard slave one," said Rin, clicking on an icon before moving the screen around again so Ranma could see. "See here? This section?"
Section IV1) Whereas the slave status shall extend to the individuals named until the choice of which partner shall be the primary wife of the Master. Any additional slaves acquired shall also be considered for this marriage arrangement.2) Where the slave shall be rejected outright, ownership shall revert to previous owner (where applicable) and the Master will lose all claims/powers/benefits from the ownership of that slave immediately.
3) Where if the slave is accepted as a mate if not wife, children shall be considered freeborn unless servitude and contract is necessary for stabilization in mortal continuua per the Solomon Accords.
"Waitaminute, if we fail in becoming his wife - there's a chance we end up back with that moe otaku?!" asked Synclavier, looking quite distraught.
"As I understand these things, yes," said Rin.
Ranma didn't understand the panicked look the two girls shared. He simply noted that the two apparently did NOT want to go back. "So you're in the same boat?"
Rin nodded. "Lisianthus, Nerine, Kaede, and Primula. They've been with me for a week now. Sia just told me you'd gotten yours and one of the things I'm supposed to do is let the new Master know what's going on."
Ranma scrolled down some of the other sections. "Almost looks like an omiai here."
"It IS like an omiai in some respects," agreed Rin.
"Huh," said Ranma. Well, at least he didn't have that many.
"Thank goodness I don't have any MORE," said Rin.
"Was that thunder?" asked Rin and Ranma at the same time, looking out at the overcast sky.
