To which he received the silencing response of a thrown paperweight, “Well if you don’t like it than stop reading the damn newspaper and get back to work on those case files!”
“Great shot director, but I wish you'd take it easier on Iruparazzo, one of these days the people at the Italian Embassy might actually listen to his complaints,” a young dogcatcher remarked to her boss.
“Just because he's your boyfriend Hanako doesn’t mean I’ll go easy on him!” The aforementioned lady director of the Fukuoka MLA Branch proclaimed.
“I’m sorry boss; it’s just all that dramatic flair really lends itself well to role-playing if you know what I mean.” Hanako commented with a lecherous grin smeared across her face.
“Yeah, I’m certain that you get a kick out of Pallas’s Level 15 Paladin.” the director snidely remarked.
“Well I wouldn't say that he's reached Level 15 just yet,” Hanako chimed, “but maybe I can help him wrack up a little more experience.”
“Ooh it sounds like someone has a few stories to tell about our staff attorney when we hit the bar later.” The director remarked while putting all talk about those juicy details on hold for later.
“Director Tendo, your daughter is calling on Line 7.” One of the phone secretaries shouted from across the room.
“Oh well, enough cooler talk for now,” Director Kimiko Tendo sighed, “Later Excel.
“Later Meimei kobushi!” Hanako rang back as the paralegal went back to fact-checking the arrests for the last full moon.
Kimiko sat down at her desk, took a minute to get her game face on then answered the line. “Nabiki I told you before, I’m not raising your allowance. If you need more money just help your dad out more with teaching in the dojo, you are the style’s heir after all.”
“Sorry mom,” Akane fired back, “Wrong daughter at Furinkan High!” “Kane-chan,” Kimiko almost sang across the line. “How’s my favorite little junior puppy-wrangler?”
“Kaa-san,” her daughter whined back, “I’m not in grade-school anymore. I’m even bringing in lunes solo now Jigoku neko-san.”
That line sent Mrs. Tendos eyes wide, “Akane Tendo who told you that name?”
"The telephone game mom," a Akane said as she smiled so wide it could almost be felt through the wires. "By the way did you know that dad set up an open arranged marriage with another family."
"Oh hell, don't tell me one of that family of con-artist food mongers finally made bail." Kimiko shot back with a streak of anger in her voice.
"What are you talking about mom?" Akane responded, "I already met Ranma Saotome at school and she doesn't seem to be a thing like that."
"Oh, the Saotomes," Kimiko could be heard sighing in relief, "For a minute there I thought that you were talking about the Chardins. Lousey freaks deserve to be chemically castrated, their not a family they're an venereal disease!
"Mom, who are the Chardins?" Akane asked her mother clearly baffled at her mother's tirade.
"Never mind that just forget I brought it up," Kimiko spat out desperately trying to change the subject.
"So you know the Saotomes mother?" Akane inquired further.
"Well I don't know their children," Kimiko admitted, "but I recall Nodoka and Genma well enough from both of our weddings."
"Wow that far back," Akane answered dripping with sarchasm, "you and dad must have known them practically forever."
"Can the mouth sprout," Kimiko spat back, "you dad and Genma Saotome are both the masters of their respective schools of Mesubetsu Kakuto-Ryu as well as best friends that go back to Middle School together. Why your Soun-kun and Genma were each others best men, although Genma's speech at the reception was a little more memorable than your fathers."
"Ooh, I've got to hear this story!" the school girl in Akane peaked out at the pretense of some juicy gossip as she practically leaned into her cellphone.
"Well I'll have to save the juicy details for when I come home weekend after next," Kimiko sighed in frustration as deep down she wished that the Main Office had given her a promotion closer to home instead of one on another island. "Let's just say that in-between the wedding and the reception he ransacked three honor bars at the hotel, and by the time came for him to give the speech he was so pickled that he was acting more emotional than your father at a chick-flick."
Akane laughed to herself at the memory of sitting down to watch Guan Yu Ai with her family two months ago, and how Soun ended up getting so choked up he went through three boxes of facial tissue. "I wonder if I should bring out the wedding album at the omai?"
"Akane what have I told you about situations like this?" Kimiko chided as her Akane could almost feel her mother's disappointment from over a thousand kilometers away.
"Hai Okaa-san," Akane droned while bowing her head in shame, "The only photo album that I'm supposed to bring out is the baby pictures to embarrass Nabiki when you're not her to."
"That's my girl," Kimiko smiled, "Oh well I better get back to work and you better get back to class. Remember to tell Kasumi that I'm proud of her and Nabiki that if I get one more call from the Vice-Principal this month while I'm on duty I'll be switching her over to a Catholic Girls School!"
"Yes mom," Akane smiled, "See you at the end of next week, and try not to traumatize the torte lawyers."
"I make no promises," Kimiko chimed back, "See you then Kane-chan."
Her day considerably brightened by her youngest daughter's voice, Director Kimiko Tendo instantly felt that she could handle anything the day could through at her.
"Aaaagh what's a dead body doing in here!?" a shout came from further back in the office.
"So much for a pleasant and productive day," Kimiko grumbled under her breath, "Hanako get the Depakene, Ayasugi's went Petite Mal and fell over again!"
