The Triangulans were not Markovians, though they had built a Well World that followed a number of the same concepts. One of the many differences was that Northern hexes were all human-based in lifeform design. Southern hexes were all nonhuman designs for their dominant sentience.
Nabiki, being one of the sentient flowers of Slelcron, was in a Southern hex. Her most immediate neighbors were the Shamozan, who were sentient spiders. As a nonmobile plant whose only senses were secondhand from a workbee's downloads, she was having to alter her priorities quite a bit. Wealth was essentially meaningless in this form, which while comfortable and natural did have a few limitations.
From her location she could detect, via bee-mail, another border that was slightly further away. Unfortunately, she couldn't get the bees to return from that border and nothing came across to this side - so it was a blind spot she'd have to account for.
When she felt a presence moving beyond that border, both she and her immediate neighbor sent a pair of bees to observe and report back.
There was an old saying that 'good fences made for good neighbors' in some areas.
Ranma, though primarily a warrior, was well reminded of this as he caught signs of a borderland skirmish.
What was once Nerima and some other connected sections of Japan was now Eflik, peopled by draconic humanoids.
It was WHAT had made it across the border that caught Ranma's eye as he glided into a thermal and used his enhanced distance-vision to check out the intruder.
The nearest hex didn't normally have walking mountains, but that was what he was looking at. A little taller than a Eflikan (though there was talk now about calling their hex Draconis because it was at least a minor additional way to spite the aliens that had done all this) and weighing several times what an Eflikan would. Had Ranma read Western comics he would have seen a good resemblance to Benjamin Grimm, aka The Thing. The intruder had a rocky hide and was thickly built, moving much slower than this hex's natives.
Ranma watched for a few moments before landing out of reach of the creature, not realizing that this was:
