“Have you always been this bad a patient Kagurazaka-san?” Mei sighed, helping the patient in question stand back up for the umpteenth time.
“I keep telling you I'm fine!”
“And then you fall over.”
“Pfft, minor detail. 'Sides, I've almost got the feeling back in my legs. Then I'll be ready for that rematch.”
“You'll be what?!?”
“I mean better. I'll be better. Right?” Asuna back-tracked quickly, smiling nervously at her much put upon helper, who blinked.
“Kaguarzaka-san...”
“Oh, quit being so formal Mei-chan, we're friends, right?”
“Ah... Ok, Asuna-san, but... Are you really ok? I mean, apart from the exhaustion thing.”
“What else would there be Mei-chan?”
“But you- Huh?” Mei stopped as Asuna suddenly shot an arm out, holding her back.
“We're being watched,” she whispered, looking from side to side cautiously. The trees on either side of the rooftop rustled in the breeze.
“Eh? What are you talking about?”
“There's someone... no, two people. One on either side.”
Mei blinked and looked to the side, scanning the trees quickly. “What are you talking about?”
Asuna blinked. “... I have no idea.” She paused, looking at either side of their route. “I could have sworn...” she trailed off with a strange expression on her face.
“Um... There's nothing there Kagu- Asuna-san... Didn't you want to see the match?” Mei asked cautiously.
“Eh? Oh, right!” Asuna shook her head. “Come on, we'll be late!” she exclaimed, bursting into a run. Mei just stood there for a few seconds staring incredulously, until Asuna fell over again.
“Ah! Asuna-san!” she yelped, hurrying after her.
For a few moments the trees remained silent. Then, as the girls passed out of sight, two figures leapt out if the branches, one from either side, falling back into combat stances.
“Did those two get special passes from Chao too then?” Sister Shakti asked, brandishing a pair of crosses.
“They're both competitors. There was no need to stop them,” Mana Tatsumiya answered, smiling smugly under her shawl.
“Humph. Misora, your class mates, then those two girls... I'm beginning to think I'm the only one you wont let past.”
“Well you're the only one who's not been invited. Doesn't Christianity have something against trespassing?”
--
Setsuna let out a breath as her feet touched down on the underground sand. Behind her a row of Tanka robots took advantage of their last few moments to look briefly confused, before they fell apart, sliced vertically by the Shinmei-ryű sword woman's attack.
The battle, if it could be called that, had gone surprisingly well. Takane was a formidable fighter when she wasn't cowering in the fetal position, and was responsible for the vast majority of the metal scrap that now littered the floor, annihilating huge swaths of the perverted robot army before they had even been activated. Setsuna herself had been no slouch, taking care of the ones Takane had missed on her charge in. Misora had volunteered to 'guard the flank', as she called it, but then Kokone had run off and she'd given chase. Apparently Misora really cared about the kid.
“Setsuna-saaaannnnn!!!”
“Huh?” Another Tanka fell to the floor as she turned, her dagger artefact embedded in it's throat. Misora had returned, carrying Kokone like a sack of potatoes (a position she looked thoroughly uncomfortable in).
“Setsuna-san, Setsuna-san, we got big trouble!” The Nun-in-training was panicking, her arms waving around in the air. She looked like she was on the verge of crying. “Kokone was looking around and I told her we should go back but she didn't listen and then we found something really big and it started making noise and then it started moving and I grabbed Kokone and we started running and...”
“ARUUUGGGHHHHHHHH!!!”
Misora's babbling was cut off as the sound echoed through the cavern, making her spin around as Kokone hung on for dear life. Some distance away in the direction she'd come from, something was growing upwards, blocking out the light.
'Wait, no... that's not growing,' Setsuna realised, her eyes widening. She tilted her head back as it continued to rise, towering over everything. 'It's... standing... up...'
“ARUUUGGGHHHHHHHH!!!” The creature roared again, causing the entire room to shake.
Setsuna burst into motion, grabbing the whimpering nuns and running full tilt for the exit. “TAKANE! WE HAVE TO GO!!!”
