The Djinn—at least those of the multiversal wish giving variety—followed a simple code. Mihoshi knew this code—even explained it to Ranma—as all Djinn knew it.
And there were ways of dealing with the rule breakers: the Trial.
The Trial was a panel of five judges; their appearances were disguised by outfits of entirely one color: Red, Blue, White, Yellow, and Green. The prosecutor would be similar, dressed in Black, with the Defense Attorney usually in Orange. This was done so the identities would never be known, so an angry Djinn or former Djinn could seek revenge for a bad verdict.
“The Trial for one Djinn Mihoshi shall now commence,” said White.
“Um … don’t I get an attorney?” asked Mihoshi, as she saw the empty seat beside her where her Public Defender would be.
“Yes, you do get one,” offered Green. “However, many of the Djinn are currently on assignment.”
“Would you be willing to accept another transformed Djinn as your attorney?” asked Blue. Most rejected that idea outright, as transformed Djinn usually lacked the detailed knowledge of the Djinn legal system to offer a grand defense and thus get a reduced sentence.
“Sure!”
Then again, most people weren’t Mihoshi.
“Told ya,” said a smirking Yellow, as White passed him some currency.
“Bring in the Defender!” bellowed Red, causing the doors to open and admit the transformed Djinn who would defend Mihoshi against her blunder that left two mortals trapped in a Naruto-verse.
“Exalted Djinn,” said the female figure, her appearance not obscured by the Orange coloring since she had yet to be sworn in—no one had ever asked for them before, so the ruling Djinn had never caught that mistake before. “I have come as summoned, to what do you request of—”
“KIYONE!” GLOMP!
“Ah, you know her?” asked Black.
Mihoshi nodded happily. “Kiyone, I thought you were gone forever after you fell into that event horizon thingy! Oh, I have so much to tell you! I met all these nice people and all these really mean people and then I stayed on Earth for a while and met this cute boy named Tenchi but he seemed to be always running for some reason and then I—”
“I refuse!” squeaked the bluenette, trying to pry the amorous friend off her body.
“WAH! KIYONE! I NEED YOUR HELP! WAH! I DON’T WANT TO BE TOUCHED BY GREASY PEOPLE IN THE FREEZER WHILE MAKING FRENCH FRIES!”
“There she goes again,” muttered Blue, rubbing his forehead. “Better alert the cleaning crew again. I swear she soaks a ground better than Soun Tendo.”
“Perhaps we could use this,” murmured Black.
“Do tell,” stated Green.
“Well, we all know she’s guilty, we all know she’ll be sent back to the mortal realm with her powers and Djinn memories pretty much sealed.”
“Yes,” said Yellow. “And?”
“And we would need to assign someone to watch over her, given her … connections.”
The six Djinn shuddered at that.
“So I say … assign her,” he said, nodding to Kiyone, who was still attempting to remove the tanned blonde from her octopus-like grasp.
“Could work,” muttered Red. “But she would end up being likewise restricted. It is why we usually assign those on probation to such menial work.”
“Well if we don’t assign her, we’ll get reports about how she’s always crying for her. You know since they knew each other as mortals that she’ll recall she’s alive,” muttered Green.
“Then we are agreed,” said White. Seeing their nods, he turned back towards the duo in question. “So … who wants to tell them?”
“… Let’s wait till she wears herself out,” suggested Yellow. “Then they won’t have the strength to scream when we send them … where?”
“That last universe,” said Red. “She can go there and watch over the mortals she placed there.”
“As what?” asked Blue.
If not for the obscuring clothes, one could swear Red was smirking.
“Wow, I can introduce to my new friends,” said Mihoshi with a smile, her adult form replaced with that of a young teen’s.
“Why did this happen to me?” cried Kiyone. “What did I do to deserve this?”
Poor girls, sighed the driver of the cart. He was just glad to be dumping them off in Konoha. He had been hired by a village friend to do so. Apparently, the girls’ parents had died accidentally and had willed custody of the girls to two family friends that lived within Konoha. Well, I’m sure they’ll do well. I mean, I’ve never heard anything bad about the Tendo or Saotome families.
And with that, he guided his supply cart through the caravan towards the thick forests of the Land of Fire.
