The Saotome Girls: Every legend must have a beginning... [Episode 21716]

by Nightelf

Sailor Pluto blinked as she stared at the Time Key.

It was... calling to her.

"Pardon me, but do you mind if I go someplace? I'll be back in just a minute."

Sailor Uranus raised an eyebrow. "The Time Gate, right?"

Sailor Pluto frowned. "I guess..." With that, she concentrated on what the staff was trying to tell her...

... and found herself in front of the Gate. She reached a hand out to it, marveling at the incredible chaos in front of her... and realizing, with no small amount of fear, that she understood what was happening.

Time was about possibility. An event happens that could go one way or another; however, until that event, all possible outcomes of a possibility existed. She gulped as she realized she was staring straight at infinity, and absorbing it as though it were nothing.

She'd had doubts of Haruka and Michiru's claims up to now; after this, there was no doubting it. She was born for this job. It seemed almost natural for her to lose herself in what could be...

Then she swallowed as she looked at the line, how the future and past joined, and understood everything. Why she had chosen this method to renew herself; why she had found this person at this time to 'kidnap' her and wipe her memories, and why she didn't fight it at all, when she could have made sure he was never born to begin with.

She understood it all, now; why she was here, what her purpose was.

The crusading done by the Saotome girls, their role to bring peace to a troubled city - the family willing to fight to protect a world that had once left them scarred and forgotten.

The tattoo magic, worked on and perfected by Nabiki and her daughter, Ami, into a force designed not to enslave, but to free...

The charismatic power of Ranma's daughter, a young girl given the Americanized name of her grandmother and the wings to carry them far beyond this place...

And, ultimately, her own desperate actions, taken as the world became enshrouded in ice... actions that led to the most peaceful kingdom of all time.

She shook her head, disbelieving, but unable to deny. This was the future and the past - and it was her responsibility to see it through, to protect her family.

They were her family in more ways than one, she realized. She took a step back and willed herself back to them - not yet royalty, but one day...
