Having one heck of a headache did help in that regard.
That wasn't to say that he wouldn't have relaxed like this on his own before, but after the knock that Elder Cologne had given him earlier, he needed the time to relax even more than he would have normally. It was fairly annoying because of that, since any enjoyment that he would have gotten out of the moment was lost due to that pounding ache in the back of his skull. Hurting like that was distracting as all hell, and he really wished that it would simply go away.
Pulling in on himself in a sulk, he found himself annoyed with how his suffering was intruding on what could have been a nice moment of peace. If anything, he would have liked to share this lovely place with his beloved Shampoo. In a spot of natural beauty would have fit right in, and it would have been a good place to display her loveliness to all, and for him. Why, he would have just enjoyed a chance to give her a chance to utterly relax, where they could be together, and share a deep and abiding connection. Then they could embrace each other, sharing in their powerful affection, and move on to possible future intimacies.
But no, she wasn't even anywhere nearby. Shampoo was off chasing that arrogant loser who was supposed to be her husband, and who did not deserve her attentions, never mind her affections. That pigtailed idiot couldn't have even understood the magnitude of the blessing that he'd gotten, and he had the audacity to stroll about like what he was getting should just come to him at his leisure! She should have been there at the shore with him, but she was off running to go after a man who hadn't had the decency to stop and say 'goodbye' to her.
No, there was no way that 'Ranma Saotome' deserved to be with Shampoo, and he sure as hell wouldn't let it be. His dear Shampoo was blessed with the most womanly beauty, was the greatest warrior of her generation, and had a strong and deeply feeling heart. For such a woman he would fight, and go forth to do whatever he could to not only protect her from the foolishness of crass individuals, but would struggle to win her for himself.
Leaping to his feet, he stood proudly, certain that he would seize the day. Well, not this particular day, but he would succeed soon enough. All that he had to do was to stop that boy from ensnaring her, and prove to her that he was better for her himself. Why, if he did all that, then those old bats would have to give in and accept that he was the one who really deserved to be with her.
Finally certain of what he should do, Mousse knew that he had to go right back home. Once there, he could start working out a way to win Shampoo back to him, and removing the distraction of that Saotome boy. Just how he would do it wasn't clear, but he was sure that he could come up with something. All that he had to do to start was to start walking back to the road, and come up with possible plans for success.
Unfortunately, he didn't have his glasses on, and wound up walking right into the water, losing his balance as he misjudged a step, winding up face first into the lake.
Of course, that was a problem for the warrior trainees who had been playing about in the water nearby. Beyond the fact that they had stripped down to keep from getting their normal clothes soaked, their nubile bodies were glistening from their swimming, and their hair was damp from the splashing. Thus, they were not exactly pleased with the idea of a boy apparently lunging and missing in their general direction.
It was really too bad for Mousse that he was too busy spitting out water to recognize what sort of trouble he was in.
He wasn't exactly pleased with the idea of going to school, but Ranma was at least happy that he was getting to spend some time with his friends. They might have been girls, but they did care about him, and it was good to be able to spend some peaceful times with them. After all, with his life, being able to stick around them wasn't exactly a bad idea in his book.
Holding his bookbag over one shoulder, he smiled at his friends. "You know, it's pretty nice to be able to do this. I'd have thought that it'd be busier going on to school."
"Isn't it though," Nabiki drawled, and then let off with a wicked grin. "But you lucked out and got the two of us to yourself."
"I get that, but isn't that a bit much to put it like that?"
"Well, we wouldn't struggle for a date by any means. Then there's the fact that plenty of guys your age would love to have beauties like the two of us alone for a long time."
"If you'd like to have those sorts of idiots with you instead of a nice guy like Ranma," Akane ground out.
"Normally, it could be fun, but I can see why you'd be so... against it, dear sister."
"She have that much of a problem," Ranma asked, concern coloring his tones.
"You could say that. The thing is that I usually don't have problems with boys. I understand what I want, and I know what they want, so I can always use the latter to get the former. On the other hand, Akane...."
"Girr...." went the younger girl began as what could only be the school gates came into sight.
"One might say that she has a problem with the opposite sex."
"I hate boys!" Akane snarled as she charged forward with a clear intent to do harm.
Had she merely run on ahead, there might have been questions about what was going on, but as she came up towards the entrance, a huge mob of boys, most looking to be from sports clubs, charged right at her, yelling, "Akane, be mine! Don't let them defeat you! I'll win you this time!"
Surprised to see what was going on, Ranma blinked slightly and tried to figure out what to make of the mess. There had been a moment when he'd thought that his friend was trying to get away from him, but he could see from the way that she was pounding on those idiots that she was mad at them instead. From the sight of her smashing a fist into one boy's chin, swatting at another with her bag, and kicking the lacrosse stick out of the hands of a third, it was clear that she wanted to get rid of them all. But they all obviously were still going to go after her, as they cried out claims of affection even as they tried to lynch her. To him, this was all very idiotic, and he watched for a moment, while:
