In a universe much worse off than the ones we know, Earth had been at war with a variety of alien forces over the years. Humanity had been able to reverse engineer the alien technology, giving them a fighting chance against the invaders. In most universes the first product of this reverse engineering was the Gespenst, which subsequently was turned into the main unit in the human armies.

In most universes where the above happens the Gespenst is never upgraded past the Mk II. What sets the universe that this mech came from apart is that the Gespenst line had reached the MK III stage, and the MK III had been slated for mass production, despite the massive cost involved.

The mech that our reluctant hero and heroine had found themselves inside was the progenitor of the mass produced MK IIIs, the original. Originally piloeted by a man known as the Beowulf, the mech was anything but standard. By accidently stealing it they had done a faction called the Shadow Mirrors, and most living things in general, a major favor.

But Ranma and Jura didn't know that, nor would they have cared if they did. They just knew they were in a cockpit and that they were falling. Again. They had no idea where they would end up, or who each other were, gut they silently agreed that the falling was getting old.

Thus the uncanny adventures of Ranma and Jura began as the rabbit hole dropped them in...
