Ranko 1/2: Head-First Into the Fire [Episode 219641]

by The Master Chief

The two girls signed their names on the pad, Ranko first, and then Akane. Taking a moment to examine the signatures, the man then put the pad back on the desk before reaching down and taking out two plain manila folders, handing them to the new Death Watch hopefuls.

“Enclosed in these folders are rulebooks for the competition,” he explained. “You'll find it very light reading, as we rather enjoy a good bit of chaos. You'll also find plane tickets to the contest venue. Flight leaves at eight PM, so please do not dally. Those tickets are expensive.”

“Of course,” Ranko crooned, winking playfully at the promoter. “Wouldn't miss it for the world.”

“We wouldn't want to be late,” Akane added before bowing respectfully. “Thank you, sir.”

“Thank you,” he replied, a wide smile on his face. “I hope you ladies enjoy the competition, and more importantly, that you live to tell your friends how it went. Good luck, ladies.”

Akane and Ranko both walked out of the office, looking at each other curiously.

“You know,” Akane quipped, “we might have to fight each other.”

“Oh I doubt it!” Ranko dismissed her friend's concerns. “Death Watch is a large-scale Battle Royale taking up miles, packed to the gills with contestants. I say the two of us working together would double the odds of the winnings going to the dojo. Divide and conquer, and all that?”

Akane wasn't entirely convinced. “What if we both end up at the top?”

That elicited a giggle from Ranko, who winked at Akane playfully. “I doubt that'll happen, and if anything, we can just fight non-lethally until the time limit. It's the points that matter in the end.”

Akane nodded weakly, finding no fault in Ranko's logic. “I guess. Just be careful, okay?”

Ranko chuckled and winked at Akane, flashing her a thumbs-up. “You too, Akane.”

The school day went by relatively uneventful. The school was abuzz, however, with news of people signing up for the Death Watch event, mostly wondering how the organizers were able to get permission to recruit at a school of all places. Still, with Ranko and Akane the first to jump on there, very few other girls were interested. After all, those two were downright lethal when they needed to be, so the chances of anyone else from Furinkan winning was slim.

At the end of the school day, Ranko and Akane looked at each other as they left the school grounds, both contemplative.

“So, what now?” Akane asked. “We should get some clothes, but it's not like our fathers are going to let us go so easily... Well, yours might, being as obsessed with the Art as he is...”

Ranko thought about that for a moment, crossing her arms over her bountiful breasts.
