Which was about the time that the eleven year old girl noticed a ring that hadn't been on her finger yesterday either. A thin band of what looked like silver that decorated one finger.
"Is this... an engagement ring?!" squeaked Hinata.
I guess it's a good thing I'm still awake. Yes. It's an engagement ring. You're really difficult to shop for, you know.
"WHAT?!" hearing a furry-sounding voice in her head caused her to jump and look wildly in all directions. By that time she was already wondering how a voice sounded 'furry' as well.
I got ahold of a jewelry specialist. Yours is a Ring Of Fire Protection.
"Oh?" asked Hinata, now admiring the sparkly look of it in the morning sun.
Your eyes see things normally for now, said the furry voice. As you progress in their use though, you will find other abilities. Telescopic Vision. Microscopic Vision. Xray Vision. Heat Vision. Are you listening?
"Eh?" asked Hinata.
The furry voice of the Beast Within Naruto grumbled a few things as it faded out.
"'Telescopic Vision'?" asked Hinata into the silence of Naruto's apartment. "Who names these things?"
"It has to be the work of the Demon Fox!" exclaimed the owner of a meat-packing shop. One of several individuals who'd taken one look at the ex-Hyuga walking around with eyes again and started forming a mob. A mob whose leaders had suddenly found their meeting had a Hokage in their midst.
"A beast known only for destruction is now showing the ability to heal?" asked Sarutobi. "The Ninetails has learned to be subtle?"
"What else COULD it be?" asked the baker.
"What do you know of Naruto's bloodline?" asked Sarutobi, the Third Hokage.
"Well... nothing actually," said the candlestick-maker.
"I do know something of it," said Sarutobi. "It's all highly classified, but his father was a VERY skilled ninja who attained jonin level at a young age. His mother was also very skilled, and had a number of techniques including some medic-nin training."
"So," said a holistic medicine specialist as he glanced around at the other representitives of the mob, "she left him some scrolls or something?"
"It's entirely possible," said Sarutobi. "Not everything you think you know about Naruto is correct, but I am not at liberty to speak further."
"Huh, what're these?" asked Naruto, several hours later.
"Part of your inheritance, or something," said Sarutobi. "Some reading material for you and your young friend."
Hinata gave up hiding behind the curtain. "You're... not angry or afraid?"
"My dear, I'm quite familiar with the events of that day," said the Hokage, pulling a chair out of one pocket so he could sit down. "Now, suppose you tell me your side of events, eh? Starting with you, Hinata."
