“I must admit, Saotome,” the chief began as he looked across the desk at Ranma, trying to ignore the fact that she was still basically topless. “It's not often I can congratulate you on something good and still have to yell at you about keeping your hormones in check.”
Making note of her superior's sarcasm, Ranma chuckled and leaned back in her chair. “I'm sorry, Chief? I just bagged one of the most long-standing fugitives in the city, if not the whole damned country, and you're giving me crap because I had to undo my top?”
The chief let out a sigh and shook his head, his large, muscular body slumping slightly in his chair. “Saotome!” he exclaimed, his frustration at the red-headed officer before him growing by the second. “You paraded around half-naked in public! That's a damned media shit-storm waiting to happen, not to mention the complaints we'd get if someone's kid saw that! God damn it, if it wasn't for the bust you made, I'd have your badge!”
“Hey!” Ranma shouted, jumping up from her seat. “How dare you!? This is a thief that's eluded police for years! If I hadn't done what I did, he'd probably still be out there!”
“You could have called it in!” The chief's retort was thunderous, the result of his sheer frustration. “You'd have backup and a new top, and we wouldn't have this problem!” He leaned forward on his desk. “Damn it, Ranma, you're one of my best officers, if not the best, when you're on the ball, but you have to stop letting your lusts take over, at least when on duty.”
For once, Ranma had nothing to say, slumping back in the seat. The look in her boss' eyes said he wasn't going to listen to her protests anymore. “So, what happens now?”
“You're going to be... Reassigned.” The chief also slumped back in his chair. It was clearly not something he liked. “I'd been thinking about this for a while now, but this... incident has forced my hand.”
“Reassigned?” Ranma inquired, her demeanor sinking. Reassignment was never a good thing, at least not in her experience. “Where to?”
