Love Hina After: Edges Of Lessons [Episode 221551]

by Kender

As she hurried into the building holding the job placement office, Naru pushed aside the thoughts about how her commute had gone. Sure, it had been rather hectic, as she had expected it to be, considering how close she had come to running late. That had infected every bit of her travels, since it had started her worrying from the beginning. No matter how excellent her credentials were, if she caused problems from the start of her application process, there wouldn't be anyone who would hire her.

So, she was already forgetting how the problems that came from having to rush. Rather than having to have take it easy, she had to deal with being stuck in a stuffy bus with office workers running late for work and housewives heading out on daily chores. But to dwell on that mess would make her mood go even more south, and she had other things to be concerned about.

Part of that was to calm herself down, since she had gotten there on time. Slowing her walk to a casual stroll, she tried to get her breath back under control. Smoothing her skirt so that it would hang straight, she glanced down at her hose for any runs. Satisfied with the fact that her appearance was satisfactory, she headed in to the office, certain that she could manage to get in well enough.

Once inside the office, she nodded and smiled at the familiar faces, as she'd grown to recognize some of them. She didn't really know many of them, but they had been kind enough to collect some listings of jobs for her. Due to that, it just seemed to be a good idea to be nice to them, and some were actually pretty friendly.

Then there was the one girl that she rather liked. "Hello, Yuriko."

"Why, hello there," called out the long haired girl. "Getting more offers, are we?"

"Something like that. They are only open positions though."

"Yeah, but they are going to want someone like you."

"I'd like to think so," Naru admitted with a smile.

"Why wouldn't they?"

"There might be a good reason," commented a new voice.

The two of them turned to face a middle aged woman with pinched features scowling down her nose at them. Something seemed to be annoying her, but she was clearly staying closed mouthed about it. All that she showed was a grouchiness that was clearly not dissipating.

"Is... something the matter?" Naru asked her.

"I can not say something off hand," the woman drawled, pushing her pointed glasses up higher on her nose. "Such hastiness is unbecoming."

"That wasn't what I was trying to do."

"Oh, I am sure you think so, but a child such as you can not truly understand what goes into teaching young minds."

"But Mrs. Harada, she isn't just someone off of the street," Yuriko protested.

"Is that so?"

"It is! Naru is a graduate of Tokyo University!"

"More impressive than I would have thought for such a young child. Is she as hard up as having to have others look for jobs for her?" Mrs. Harada muttered.

"No, she is just picking up the listings."

"That is good. Is she taking care of her own interviews?"

"Mrs. Urashima doesn't need any help," pronounced the placement worker.

"She is married?"

"Yes, to an archeologist who graduated from Tokyo University too."

Blinking slightly, Mrs. Harada peered intently at the younger woman. "Interesting. Not many women these days have the sense to understand the responsibility of marriage."

"There was no way that I wouldn't have married him," Naru bit out.

"That is good to hear."

"Glad that you approve."

"Good to see that you understand," Mrs. Harada commented, and strode off.

"What was her problem?"

Yuriko shrugged. "No one ever knows, but as since she does hiring for a school, we let her be."

"One of those, huh? Well, I have better things to do."

"I'm sure that you do. Hope that you do well."

"Thanks," Naru told her, and walked off with her folder, insisting on not allowing some old bat to ruin her day. She had to go and see if she could get a position and she didn't want it to be some sort of simple job. What she wanted to do was to get a career, and hoped to be the sort of teacher that would be an inspiration to her students lives. To be sure, that wouldn't be easy, but then she was looking to get the satisfaction of completing such hard work.

Heading to the elevator, she opened the folder so that she could see the listings for the schools. Some sounded nice, like the high class academies. But she didn't have anything going to work at a public school. One even sounded familiar, as she had to consider why that was. Well, she'd have to ask Motoko about it, as she knew that the other woman would know all about it. Though as she thought about it, the fact that since the kendo practitioner hadn't been there in years meant that it would be better to go to talk to Ema for information.

At the same moment as she stepped into the elevator, her conscious mind caught up with her recognition and she realized that she was going for an interview at Motoko and Ema's high school, while:
