In another world, another time, Crystal Tokyo would have been created on Earth.
This was an advanced sort of virtual reality, though Ranma didn't know it, and it was based on an entirely different scenario.
Crystal Tokyo as of census 1/1/2014Background: Construction began in early 1993, initially as a supply base for Mars bound traffic by Cyberdyne. Ceded to Sailor Moon as part of a settlement of future diversity in 1995. Fully independent and self sufficient as of 1997.
Area: 100 square miles in the Sea Of Serenity, lunar surface.
Climate: not applicable.
Natural Resources: Titanium and rock products mainly. Some companies use registry with Crystal Tokyo - which has low taxes and is one of the more major influences on terrestrial area space growth. CT is also a major retirement village due to the life extension properties of the lower grav field.
Population: 13,500 in the cityplex itself. Another 500,000+ at large in the solar system.

Most people in near-Earth space also knew it through a syndicated radio program.
"This is the Voice of Crystal Tokyo. Hello from the moon. I'm Artemis and we're coming to you from the Sea Of Serenity as we do every terrestrial day at this time. Hello all my little princes and princesses out there.
"Day getting you down? Conflicts between the Colonies and Earth, between Mars and the Colonies, stress over that big Gate that our friends in Cyberdyne are putting in Jovian orbit? Let old Artemis ease your minds somewhat, my children. "It's truly a sad day with yet another complex of Cyberdyne coming under terrorist attack, furthering that company's decision to pull all their terrestrial operations and relocate to deep space. And I mean deep since most of their factories and offices are heading towards Jupiter or are out past it already. I hear the Kuiper Belt is cold this time of year. Better find a warm body to cuddle up with.
"Keep in mind the good news, my children. It has been over a decade since the last invasion attempt, and we beat their sorry behinds pretty darn badly when that came around. While there is some hostility developing between Earth and the Colonies, Crystal Tokyo is here and we've been handling the mediations.
"Life expectancies and quality of life out here in the final frontier continue to rise. Food and air and water aren't the scarcities they were when we were first settling into space. Just the lunar farms here are enough to provide food for twice our number. The terraforming of Mars is going well with the soletta, and you can expect the farms there to increase output dramatically as that continues.
"No, my little princes and princesses out there in this big empty we call home, that big ring being built by Cyberdyne is not a cannon or anything of the sort. But then you know those political agenda spin doctors on Earth, don't you? The truth is always their first casualty. What it is - that scares them even worse than the cannon. It's still years from completion but when the stargate is fully functional, you'll have a target a hundred miles wide you can send your ship through and end up in an entirely different star system. If those dirt-heads give you grief, you can just pick up and find a different star to orbit. Just remember to send old Artemis a post card if that happens."
The white cat lapped at a dish of water as he cued a commercial.
"How bad is it, really?" asked Artemis' companion. Usagi II was a teenage girl whose pink hair was cut short in a manner similar to her "sempai" - Haruka.
"Off the air?" Artemis asked, determining that there were still another five minutes of commercials and a pre-recorded solar activity report to go through. "Well, it's -
