Nagisa and Kawai quickly made it to the Nerv compound, while Nagisa carried the cardboard box from Kawai's. Misato was standing in front of Nerv and tapping a foot impatiently.
"Where were you? How did you do that?" Misato demanded.
"I had to talk to my best friend Kawai here. Apparently, she is almost in the same boat as I am," Nagisa stated. "The box belonged to her grandmother and might help Dr. Akagi since Kawai can act as a second sample."
"Please tell me you are joking," Misato groaned.
"We'll let Dr. Akagi make that decision," Nagisa said with a shrug. "One more thing. If I'm busy or delayed for whatever reason, I keyed Kawai in so that she can pilot Iczer Robo in my place. She'll probably have to be paired up with Asuka in that case."
"Why her? Why didn't...?" Misato asked.
"Friendship and trust. Iczer Robo has some quirks to it and those quirks are tied to those two reasons I gave," Nagisa replied.
"Let's get the two of you to Ritsuko and see what she has to say," Misato stated.
The trio quickly made their way to Dr. Akagi's office and Nagisa introduced Dr. Akagi to Kawai and handed her the box. Dr. Akagi rummaged through the box and found the various pictures and looked in disbelief and the brown haired girl.
"Another one?" Ritsuko muttered in resignation and then stared at Nagisa. "Once I get some samples from your friend, head back to your apartment, as I look through this stuff. You will get it back Kawai. I just need to make sure."
After getting some blood and tissue samples from Kawai, the two teenage girls were dismissed by Ritsuko and grabbed a aspirin packet.
"Problems?" Misato asked.
"The more I find out about Nagisa, the more annoying she becomes. Now, there is a second one," Ritsuko replied and took the aspirin
Ritsuko gave a heavy sigh and dug through the box. Near the bottom, she found a locket that had strands of hair stuffed inside it. She looked at the pictures of the two girls in the locket and looked at the hair.
"What's up Ritsuko?" Misato asked.
"This locket. I think I finally have something I was hunting for."
Ritsuko carefully removed two strands of hair and took them over to one of her stations and started doing DNA comparisons of Nagisa's first DNA test and Kawai's current sample to the two strands of hair.
"I suspected, but now I have proof. Nagisa and Kawai are the same people as the ones pictured in the photos from the box. The DNA is a one hundred percent match," Ritsuko stated.
"So, Kawai is probably going to be named the Fifth Child," Misato stated with a heavy sigh.
"Very likely. Hopefully, she doesn't change as fast as Nagisa did," Ritsuko stated, as she tossed the locket back in the box. "I better get this information to the Commander. You might as take the box back to those two. I got all the information I needed from it."
"Right."
After Misato left, Ritsuko headed to Gendo Ikari's office and gave the report about Kawai and the locket she had found in the box. Gendo hummed thoughtfully as he rested his chin on his crossed palms.
"Interesting. That order of injecting Nagisa's altered DNA into Asuka can be changed. We now have Kawai and she is far more disposable than Asuka is and might actually help us understand how Nagisa became the way she is a lot easier," Gendo stated.
"Very well," Ritsuko stated.
Ritsuko left and Gendo brought up a still frame taken of two girls as they walked through Nerv.
"What is it about you two that you were chosen?"
After Kawai and Nagisa left the Nerv compound, the two of them met the trio of Evangelion pilots. Nagisa smiled and buried her discomfort in dealing with the depressed teenagers.
"Rei, Shinji, Asuka? This is my best friend Kawai. She is in somewhat the same boat as I am. Kawai? These are the pilots of the Evangelion units. Rei is the person I chose to be partnered with if I need to use Iczer Robo again. You might want to be paired with Asuka in case I'm busy and Iczer Robo is needed," Nagisa said in cheerful tone. "I keyed Kawai in to pilot Iczer Robo as my backup in case of problems."
The pilots all shook Kawai's hand and Asuka gave a long look at the older girl.
'Cute? Her parents need shot for that name,' Asuka thought to herself. 'It doesn't help that she lives up to it.'
After saying their goodbyes, Kawai and Nagisa headed back to Nagisa's apartment
