Millions of years ago, long before humans from the Moon Kingdom settled there, a highly advanced civilization had existed on Mars.
The ancient martians had possessed incredible superpowers. Their physical power was nearly on par with kryptonians and daxxamites. Add to this shapeshifting, telepathy, telekinetic flight, thermal vision, invisibility and the ability to control their own body density. The martians had been cosmic powerhouses with only one weakness: An ingrained pathological fear of fire. Confronted with a naked flame, martians would be seized by terror and lose their powers because of a psychosomatic reaction.
Except for J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter, and the pale martians still imprisoned in the Still Zone (the ancient martians' version of the kryptonian phantom zone) at the time Genma did his experiment, the martian race was dead, annihilated by a telepathic plague millenia ago.
The sample the unscrupulous martial artist/genius scientist had secured for enhancing his son had come from an obviously inhuman skeleton found in Hokkaido. Archeologists theorized the creature had been worshipped by primitive ainu tribes long before the yamato people came to the japanese islands. The mummified corpse had been seized by the japanese government at the start of the twentieth century and put it in a warehouse to be forgotten.
Genma grinned, looking at his sleeping son. Now he only needed to wait for a little while and take the boy on a loooong training trip. He would forge Ranma into the perfect weapon againt Happosai and ensure his retirement at the same time. To think the Master and Soun had always made fun of him because of his advanced education! They would see soon enough how wrong they were...
Unfortunately for Genma, he would discover that it was easier said than done.
