"An amber sky?" asked Nabiki as she eyed it uncertainly.
"Something happen here," said Shampoo as she walked around. "Look this."
"All the trees are burned on one side," said Ukyo. "What the heck causes this sort of thing?"
Kasumi picked up a silvery leaf, admiring it briefly.
"There's water nearby, and whatever burned this place has been a handful of years in its past," said Cologne after a few minutes of searching. "I'll suggest we set up camp there, beyond that rock outcropping. From there we have some cover, yet we aren't that far from the cavern and we can retreat there if something threatens our position."
"I don't think that's gonna happen," said Ranma. "This place feels kinda dead to me."
"Indeed," said Cologne. "I get the same feeling. Though this scarlet grass and a number of the trees are still alive. We won't learn more right away, however several of our group are pretty much spent."
"Gotcha," said Ranma, glancing towards Yuka and Sayuri.
"Even the air feels burned," said Cologne. "Dead. Whatever tragedy happened here though - appears to be past. Our own world is going through its tragedy. We shall have to see what we can do in the meantime."
"Right," said Ranma.
"I see that age can provide wisdom," said Soun, more than anxious to put his own pack down.
"Guess her brain isn't as shriveled as the rest of her," muttered Genma.
KA-THWACK!
Ranma looked down at his cane-besmacked father and actually considered not saying it. Nah. Too perfect an occasion. "Now THAT he had coming."
The Panopticon survived, though cracked and fused from the terrible Event that had burned the planet. Within it beat the Eye Of Harmony.
Of the city that housed it, the people who built it, there was no longer a sign. The area itself was no longer molten rock, but the ash had formed a funeral shroud. If one stood anywhere near it, there would be nothing to see but destruction.
A furtive figure DID in fact look over the devastated area briefly, not seeing anything of value to ensure survival, then continued on.
As it was, the scuffed footprint that Ranma had spotted earlier WAS an indication of someone going through the tunnel before them. That being:
