Present Past: I am my own Grandpa? [Episode 225310]

by Kestral

"Lunarian shuttle approaching, reactionless drive of some sort," noted one of the bridge operators.

"Passive scans only, let's not be too intrusive," said Teletha as she settled back into her command chair. "I'll be right back."

Why would even a genius of her age and gender be put in charge to the extent that she was? Because this particular genius had shown abilities that made her uniquely qualified for such. One of which was this.

Her mind expanded, directly touching on various systems and making connections and corrections.

There's a hold up in the Docks,
Quark's broken out in fights,
There's a traffic jam in Enviro,
That's backed up to Maintenance,
There's a tour group short a child,
Lunars due at main docking,
Patrol 54 - where are you?

Satisfied that there were only minor difficulties, Tessa let her spirit find her way back to her body.

Whoa. I didn't expect THAT.

How advanced are these Earthers again?

They've developed some odd abilities that we don't have, but I had previously discounted the usefulness of those Talents. I may have done so in error.

Their species is like our own in many respects, but it is the subtle differences I find intriguing.

One moment. Trista? YOU made a mistake?

While I am very very good at my job of Observer, I never claimed to be omniscient.

I wonder if she knew that her astral form was briefly enveloping the station, or that we could see it?

Highly unlikely, my Princess. Otherwise I think she'd have imaged some clothes on.

Do we REALLY need to take this long to get there?

Speed is a predator's approach, and we don't want to trigger any sudden reactions, Princess. If we alarm them, they might turn hostile. They've only been civilized for a few thousand years after all - the primitive still lurks within their hearts.

"The Lunarians must not be allowed to reach Babylon 5," said the shadowy figure in the darkened councilroom.

"MUST you be so melodramatic?" asked another figure.

"Oh, just humor him," said another figure.

"We have been cut out of the loop by these Americans, the Lunarians, and others," said the first figure. "Now is our time to take the stage."

"He's got a point," said the third figure.

"And how are we supposed to stop them before they get there?" asked the second figure. "Our governments' instructions to the side, we lack the equipment to fight our way through a cordon of Starfuries and Arm Slaves in order to blow up an alien shuttlecraft of unknown properties. Much less commandeer it the way MY government wants."

"Well, we should make an attempt at least, that way we can each of us claim credit secretly, disavow publicly, and not tip our hand overmuch," said the third. "With that in mind, I came up with something that should work out - now."
