Genma sat in the dojo, calmly smoking his pipe, and enjoyed a last moment of peace before the upcoming events that were surely going to change his and Ranma's lives.
Taking a deep drag from his pipe, he closed his eyes, soaking in the dojo's aura – a mix of intense focus, determination, joy and anger.
This was probably his last opportunity to do so. Soun would surely insist that Genma and his family leave his old training partner's home once he told everyone of what he had planned.
He smirked as he thought about what he was going to tell the girls soon. His smirk turned into a frown as his thoughts turned to the reasons for the upcoming meeting and the reactions his announcement would garner. The girls and their respective guardians were likely to freak out and start a fight when they heard what he had to say, but there was nothing to be done about it. The way they had used his son to fool everybody could not be tolerated. They had left him no choice.
“Husband? What's this I hear about you having an important announcement to make?”
Slowly opening his eyes, Genma turned his head slightly to see his wife of twenty years stand in the entrance to the dojo. He blew out a big cloud of smoke and gestured to a spot on the floor across from where he was sitting. “Come in, Nodoka. There's something I have to tell you.”
His wife walked over to him slowly, hesitating to look into his eyes, no doubt hoping to receive a hint that would tell her what this was all about. It was a useless effort though, Genma made sure to keep his expression neutral and to display a calm collectedness.
When Nodoka sat down, Genma spoke up, not giving her a chance to ask any more questions.
“I caught our son earlier today packing his things, intent on leaving here.” He paused to take another drag from his pipe before looking his wife in the eyes, piercing her with a meaningful look. “He had no intention of coming back again.”
Nodoka gasped, her eyes widening. “What? Why?”
“That's what I wanted to know. After Ranma told me his reasons, I had to admit that I couldn't blame him.”
Before his wife was able to ask about the reasons, Genma told her. He told her everything. How the girls had all been hitting and verbally abusing his son since the moment they had shown up, and how Ranma had endured it all like a man and carried on his engagements despite the hardships they caused him. Then he told her of the girls' deception, about how they had all been using their engagements to Ranma to hide the fact that they were lesbians. How they only pretended to be in love with Ranma to be able to carry out their illicit affairs with each other.
When he was finished telling her all this he hung his head and closed his eyes, taking another drag from his pipe. He opened them again when he heard a growling noise coming from his wife.
Nodoka sat rigidly, with her shoulders straight and her head held high. Her hands were clutching the ever-present family sword tightly, the knuckles turning white. Her arms were shaking and she had her jaws tightly clenched.
“I can't believe it!” she hissed. “I can't believe they'd do such a thing! They all seemed to be such nice, respectable girls.”
“Yes,” Genma agreed with a nod, “they had us all fooled.”
“What do you plan to do about this?” Nodoka demanded to know. “Surely you won't let them get away with it?”
“Of course not!” Genma said with vehemence. “I didn't spend sixteen years of my life to raise the boy, turning him into the best man and fighter I could, just to have a bunch of upstart girls use and abuse him like that!”
Then, forcing himself to calm down after his outburst, Genma outlined his plan to his wife.
Nodoka frowned. “I'm not sure I like this idea of yours. I think it would be better if Ranma were to seduce them all and make them fall in love with him. Of course, he wouldn't marry any of them, but he could keep them as mistresses. Accomplishing that shouldn't be too hard for our manly son.”
“Forget it,” Genma said bluntly. “None of them deserve him. Ranma is the strongest fighter of his generation. He's also very smart and has retained a good heart despite the harsh training he had to suffer through. I'm truly proud of him, and this has hit him hard. I don't want to see him throw away his potential by forcing him to stay here.”
Nodoka sighed, but she nodded her agreement. “Very well, husband. I will go along with your idea.”
