Many Awakened and even Initiates have tried to civilize the nature spirits of our world. Beings of such power, they rationalize, could be a force for good unlike any other, if only they knew what good was. Others are motivated to remove chaotic influences from the world, or get a sex spirit to understand modesty and boundaries.
Not only are these efforts doomed to fail, most fail spectacularly.
Unfortunately even the enlightened of humanity suffer from a pride of being a superlative form of life in the world. We are inclined to believe that our ways are best, our way of thinking is how everything thinks. Those that seek to change a spirit's behavior claim that spirits are people, not animals, and in this they are correct. However, they are not human. While an obvious fact, so many fail to grasp that this means a spirit doesn't think like a human and cannot be made to live in human society.
Do not feel pity for this. Humans could not live in the society of spirits. Feel pity instead for one who longs to cross that boundary. Indeed, the most tragic creature of all would be the one who succeeds.Excerpt from Spirit Psychology vol. 1 by The Consortium of Seven
Didn't stop it from being boring. She couldn't even relax into her seat without falling through the floor! And worst of all was how everyone stared. She knew they couldn't see her, but it was still really creepy!
Akane shook her head and tried not to stare at the empty desk. Not only was there a spirit-girl there, but that girl timeshared her memories with a human boy, and that pervert was her sister's fiance! She could feel the headache starting as she tried to puzzle that all out. She reached over to flip the page for the invisible girl and tried not to think about it.
Miyo only glanced at Ranko every few moments to make sure the spirit was behaving herself. She already concluded that the girl was some form of European spirit, probably very young since her mannerisms seemed more influenced by Ranma's memories than her own. It was an interesting conundrum.
Gosunkugi's eyes burned holes into Ranma. The brazen half-spirit dare to flaunt herself in front of him. Unforgivable! Nabiki was bad enough, but this whelp wasn't even Awakened!
Ranma grimaced. Her empathic senses were burning. She couldn't puzzle out most of it, but she figured that the intense but gentle feeling coming from most of the class was curiosity. The lust from her male classmates was more than a little disgusting, and she resolved to punish Hiroshi in particular for his attempt to casually grope her between classes. Akane and the Awakened were the hardest to puzzle out, but that was mostly cause they didn't have as much curiosity as the others.
She hung her head. Nabiki's learnin' how ta figure this all empawhatsit stuff out too. An' she can't turn it off with a quick hot kettle. Thinking about her fiancee made her sigh slightly. She didn't pick up how the sudden noise attracted attention from her classmates.
"Saotome! Can you answer the question?"
Ranma looked up at the board wide-eyed and tried to take in the alien language that was math. Do succubi sweat? she wondered as the number demons from hell mocked her inattentiveness.
