Outside the Chinese Consulate-General, a large number of Britannian troops and Knightmare Frames stood in formation. On the opposite side were carrier vehicles which held several POWs captured from the Black Rebellion, with noteworthy members tied up and mounted on the roof of the vehicles. Upon the approved signal of their commanding officer, the broadcast started to run and the focus of the camera zoomed in on a single man standing on his Gloucester.
"Can you hear me, Zero?! I am Cornelia li Britannia's Knight, Gilbert G.P Guilford!"
"Geez, is this thing really going to work? Challenging Zero that is," mumbled one of the Britannian foot soldiers.
His immediate commanding officer quickly answered his subordinate. "That's for him to worry about. Just stay focused on your job, soldier."
"Yes, my Lord!"
"Tomorrow at 1500 hours, the 256 who committed the most grave deed of revolting against our nation... will be executed!" Guilford paused a moment to take a breath. "Zero! If you value the lives of your men, you will meet me in a fair duel!"
'Hmph! As if he'll come out when there are so many enemies just waiting to shoot him down!' thought Chiba Nagisa bitterly.
"On my word as commander of the Glaston Knights and as the personal knight of the Second Princess of the Holy Britannian Empire, there will be blood shed by the appointed time. Either yours... or your men!"
Tamaki tried to drown out the commanding voice of Guilford. "Ne, Ohgi?"
"Hm?"
"...... Zero will come through for us," said the normally hot-headed Japanese man without a trace of doubt.
"Whether he comes for us or not... as long as he can liberate Japan, I will be satisfied." Although at this rate, he probably wouldn't be able to return to his old teaching job.
"Why don't you guys get it through your heads? Zero abandoned us at that crucial time. There's no way he'll come here and now," said Asahina, who was only a few posts away.
"HE'LL COME THROUGH!!" shouted Tamaki. "He's my best bud and best buds are always there for each other!!"
"Tamaki, you fool..." It made Nagisa sick on how he still had faith in that masked man.
"One thing is for certain," said Todo in his usual tone. "The proof will lie in how Zero answers Guilford's challenge. If he is able to devise a method which saves our lives while the odds stacked in the enemy's favour, then that should quell any doubts any of you may have and confirm that this Zero is one who can create miracles."
"I'm sure he's working on a fool-proof plan right now to get us out! I just know it!" exclaimed Tamaki.
"I've only read about them..." Lelouch frowned as he examined the bottle of wine in front of him while his companion, Shirley Fenette, looked on.
"I guess it can't be helped. What about over there?"
He placed the bottle down and picked up another one. "I think a noble rot wine would be too sweet. How about Sopron?"
