Judgment Day: Empire [Episode 228659]

"I have a report," said Yuka-tech, looking a lot more shaky after spending four hours in the next world down-side.

"Yeah, we guessed," said Ranma, looking from her to Konatsu and back.

"The world that we've designated as #4 is one where both magic and science work," said Yuka, "just as in my own home of Rifted-Earth. Magic is very uncommon though, and may work completely different from how we expect. It's mainly used by the Japanese Secret Police so experimenting may be a problem."

"'Secret Police'?" asked Ranma, not liking the sound of that.

"Right," said Yuka-tech. "I'm what they call an 'Operator' back home. I'm an expert on science-based technology and making it work. I was able to use my parabolic mike and recording equipment, then put things together. In that world, it's currently 1951. Things... went severely different in that world due to magic being more accessible to certain upper classes. For one thing Ieyasu is still around - he's called the 'Eternal Emperor' and it sounds like he's a Master Vampire."

"That doesn't sound good," offered Ranma.

"That's BAD," said Sir Ranma, who knew darn well the implications of such a thing.

"There's the Japanese Empire, there's a few places that aren't part of an empire, and then there's three other major powers in that world," continued Yuka-tech. "One's the German Empire. That one isn't so bad actually, if I can get past the layers of propaganda. Apparently this guy named Rommel staged a coup d'etat and reformed a lot of stuff from the previous administration. Sounds like 'Coalition Lite' or something. There was at one point an 'Italian Empire' but that's kind of collapsed or is on the verge of it. Conflicting stories there. Then there's the North American Union, but they sound like they're about to collapse. I'm not too sure about that last though, because checking histories revealed that they've been on the edge of collapse for five years now."

"Lots of misinformation then," said Nabiki, familiar with the concept if not the level of application.

"Yes, but but they do have something akin to 'psychic bloodhounds' to patrol their own populace and look for anyone who stands out," said Yuka-tech. "If it weren't for having to have some equipment to fool the sort of things in the Coalition States, we might have gotten made. Uhm. Where's Ryoga, anyway?"

"He's gone back to try and widen that section of tunnel," said Sir Ranma. "Along with the other Ryoga and Ku-Lon. They're going to try and get the Mystery Machine through. Ku Lon thinks that the door being smaller than the vehicle won't matter as long as they can actually REACH the door."

"Oh good, I'm gonna need to recharge batteries soon," said Yuka-tech. "Something about the Empire-world was causing them to drain faster than they should have. Something about the physics there I guess, it wasn't a drain from an exterior source that I could find."

"So what else? It kinda doesn't fit well with me to just leave an evil empire ruled by a vampire without doing SOMETHING," muttered Sir Ranma. "We're also going to need supplies sooner than later."

"I wouldn't recommend trying to fight them," said Konatsu as the feminine-looking ninja sat down. "Too many of them, too powerful, and there is no 'good guys' for you to link up with. At least none that we could find any sign of."
