"That woman with the green hair and golden eyes... back in the laboratory, didn't you say that you had never seen her before?" asked Setsuna as the memory continued playing out. The green haired girl patted the other side of the bench and soon enough, a grey haired young man in a black school uniform sat down beside her while the other Rai watched on.
"At the time, I didn't. This particular memory was a few days after I was found at Ashford Academy. I think I fast-forwarded ahead a bit too much so let me just rewind to this point..." The scenery shifted to the front of a shopping mall where Rai stood with the list that the Student Council President had given him earlier.
"Buy 12 copies of Cat Mimi Magazine? A fourth generation Hyper Hammer?" The look on his face obviously indicated that he was boggled at the shopping list's contents. "What type of shopping list is this, Milly? Ugh... let's just get it over wit-"
That was when he caught sight of the green haired girl who was entering a narrow alleyway with her back turned to him. "It's her!"
"The first time I caught a glimpse of her, my chest hurt as if it were reacting to her presence. I gave chase and managed to find her... or rather, she chose to let me find her." The background changed again to a subway entrance where the green haired girl stared at the panting man.
"Are you looking for me?"
"......" There was nothing except for hard breathing coming out from the man.
"...... can I help you somehow?"
'The way she spoke... there's something off about it. Almost like... an Innovator?' Setsuna could relate with the uneasy feeling that the Rai in the memory felt.
"Her voice carried an inhuman feeling to it. At the time, my heart and mind were screaming on how dangerous it was here and my chest felt as if it were on fire. I wanted to get out but there were no escape routes. I was the one trapped by her..." The way she smiled at the way he was gasping for air definitely didn't help either. "I tried to use my power on her but..."
"Get away from me!! Disappear from my sight!!"
Even though the red wave spread through the area, rather than a glazed look in her eyes, they remained the same shade of gold. "... it had no effect."
'So it is possible to be immune from Geass,' noted Setsuna privately.
Meanwhile, the other Rai tried to regain control over himself. "What is this sensation?"
"As I thought... you are a person who possesses that power. Unfortunately, Geass will not work on me," replied the female in a cool tone.
"Geass?!" screeched the young man while fighting off the dizziness that threatened to overwhelm him.
"You don't even know about Geass?" She examined him carefully before coming to a conclusion. "So that's it. You lost your memories."
"How do you know that?"
She spun around and showed her back to Rai. "Don't worry about such a trivial thing. The question is... don't you want to know more about your power?"
"Even though I still felt uneasy around her, I was filled with curiosity about what she knew."
"...... what do you know about it?"
There was a brief silence before the female spoke again. "C.C."
"See-two? What's that?"
She shot back an annoyed look. "Aren't you a rude boy? That's my name. Call me that from now on. Now do you want me to tell you about Geass or not?"
"After my life was saved, I begun my search for Gundam. Whenever I wasn't trying to survive on the streets in Azadistan, I would search everywhere, wondering if it also helped anyone else fight off the Azadistan military. Unfortunately, I did not witness any other interventions and the Republic of Krugis was assimiliated into the Kingdom of Azadistan." As the image of the young male spoke, the surroundings started shifting to riots in the streets, violence and flags being burned.
Rai looked on in shock as he saw the atmosphere. 'My God... how was he able to survive in this type of environment?'
"Over the next four years, while the civil unrest continued to rise over the new reality, I searched for Gundam. Over time, I began to wonder whether I had simply seen things under great stress and adrenaline from fighting as a child soldier. But one day..." He trailed off and let the scene change once again. This time, it was a small eatery where the boy, now 14 years old, was sharing a table an older man with short red hair. As the boy ate and kept a watchful eye on the man who simply came out of nowhere and offered to treat him to a meal, the redhead simply reached into his pocket and took out some money to pay for the bill in advance.
"What is it that you want?" asked the boy.
"Tell me, Soran Ibrahim. Do you wish to eliminate war from this world? To destroy the sources of conflict which prevent the world from coming together in harmony?"
"...... what?"
The red haired man studied the boy for a moment. "Allow me to clarify things a bit more for you. Do you wish to be like the one who saved you in the Republic of Krugis four years ago?"
This caught the boy's attention and that look of awe came back to his face. "When I found out that he was connected to that machine, I was excited. And when I was accepted into that world, I was overjoyed..." The scene shifted once again to a chamber of sorts where on the other side of the railing, four Knightmare Frames similar in design to the one that saved the boy's life stood on stand by while the boy himself was being introduced by a woman to three other males.
"I would like to introduce our newest Gundam Meister..."
"I thought to myself... 'now I get to be Gundam too.'"
The only thing that Rai could do was stare at the magnificent machines in the back of the chamber. "Gundam..."
