"How could you leave her behind?!" demanded Ranma-nerima, grabbing the shirt of the cyborg.
"She's infected, dolt!" said Ryoga-cyborg, breaking the grip easily.
"'Infected'?" asked Ranma, a little put-off by that answer.
"As far as we could find out," said Ryoga-cyborg, "this universe was affected by something done by a coalition of demonic forces - succubi."
"'Sex demons'?" asked Ku Lon.
"Right, and magic is different too," said the armored cyborg. "Men produce magical energy in their bodies and emit it in their... fluids. Women can use magic, but have to get that magical energy from men."
"That's so many levels of gross and disgusting," commented Sayuri.
"Well, yeah, I thought so too," admitted Ryoga. "More than half the monsters out there attack males to get magic, and a lot of them then eat their captives. Which kind of makes the whole thing a big pain."
"I'd imagine," said Ku Lon. "None interested in you, eh?"
"Metal body, not as easy to influence, and apparently not tasty enough for them to mostly bother," admitted Ryoga. "She's near the entry, but doesn't want to take the chance of infecting anyone else."
"She's got some kinda disease?" asked Ranma.
"Various animals and monsters of that land were infected by some sort of magical virus," said Ryoga-borg. "We discovered some of this talking with villagers, and then were on our way back when we were attacked. It seemed to specifically target Akane."
Akane sat back against a tree, resting as whatever that monster had done burned its way through her. She unscrewed her canteen and took a sip, knowing that gulping a lot of water would be problematic.
She was tired and sore and hot. Parts of her being more sore than others, and she really didn't want to think about that.
She'd been attacked by one of these "monster girls" and was infected. She understood that part. If she fought it off, she could make her way to the gate and meet up with the others. If she did not manage that, she couldn't take the chance that she wouldn't infect the others.
