In another timeline, Naruto would still be mostly shunned by civilian and ninja alike. In this timeline, he had a little more acceptance. In this timeline, he ate better. In this timeline he also had regular sparring partners which helped his taijutsu skills to develop.
So when there was a knock on his door, he was still a bit short but from the size of his hands and feet people were predicting he'd be above average height when he hit his growth spurts. He also did not have an expectation of torch-bearing mobs or anything similar.
"Uhm, hang on," said Naruto as he fumbled around with his breakfast dishes to answer the door. When he opened it, it was to see a small box had been left just outside the door. "Eh?"
Naruto scratched his head, then started sniffing the air. "Hinata?"
"eep," said a support post a few meters away.
Naruto looked over there, pondering that. Finally he simply walked over, still in his pajamas, and addressed the post. "Uhm, Hinata. We've known each other since we were FOUR. Unless you count Kiba, who can be a real pain sometimes, you're my best friend. WHY are you always hiding or ducking away from me?"
"Uhm, a-no, that is," said the girl, now edging around the post to peek around at Naruto. "P-practicing my ninja concealment skills?"
"Oh," said Naruto, finally deciding this went in the category of [girl stuff I will never really understand] (which had a lot of material already) and was best just ignored. "Well, what did you leave me?"
Going over to the box, and still quite aware of the kunoichi still peeking around the pillar, Naruto opened it. Then he picked up the contents. "New clothes? Oh. Because I shredded mine yesterday. Hang on."
Someone fidgeted several times before finally taking a few deep breaths, calming herself down, then stepped out from behind the pillar. I will remain calm. Naruto is my friend. Naruto has never said anything to me like my father has. Naruto has never teased me like the other girls have. I will not faint. I will not walk into stationary objects. I will not have a meltdown. Everything's fine.
Naruto stepped back out. "Huh. It fits perfectly. How did you know my sizes?"
"Ah, I mean, that is, uhm, lucky guess?"
