Sakura blinked, still trying to come to terms with Naruto as even vaguely competent. Heck, even using the word competent in conjunction with Naruto was odd.
"Hnn," said Sasuke, nodding. Sounded good, a fast track to where he wanted to be.
"Well, I can cook and forage pretty good too," said Naruto. "I know a few defensive and detecting spells. I'll need more resources than I've got, but there's some research on new spells that I've thought up."
"Maybe Sasuke can help in that regard," pointed out Kakashi. "As the last of the Uchiha, there might be some lab space he could rent you."
Sakura frowned.
"True," admitted Sasuke, thinking about the Uchiha district. There was a building that might be suitable there and no neighbors to complain about explosions. He didn't go there much himself, memories of that night tended to dominate his thoughts then and he was always jumping at any sudden noise.
"Uhm," said Sakura.
"So is it true, you've got a girlfriend?" asked Kakashi.
"That's what I'm told," began Naruto.
WHAM!
Sakura retracted her fist from where she'd just smitten Naruto. "I am NOT your girlfriend!"
Kakashi and Sasuke blinked.
"When did you get here, Sakura?" asked Sasuke.
Sakura's face fell and she began to say something a couple of times.
"No, Naruto apparently has a girlfriend, and she's Hinata Hyuga," said Kakashi, a little disappointed that teasing Naruto was going to be difficult regarding his current semi-conscious state.
Sakura stared and her mouth made little fish-like opening and closing motions before she turned and trudged off to sit in a corner.
"A Hyuga?" asked Sasuke, obviously surprised.
"Yes, I'm a little jealous," said Kakashi. "Their women grow up quite... well."
"So he's only got to worry about one annoying fangirl?" said Sasuke, glancing down at the still-stunned Naruto.
"She can get out of it anytime she wants," mumbled Naruto as he got slowly up.
"You're going to let her go that easy?" asked Kakashi, a little surprised. From what he knew of Naruto, he would have expected him to latch onto the relationship and have to be pried off.
"Don't know how much she knows," said Naruto, "and I'm kind of new to all this myself."
Sakura made an odd noise that sounded like a choked-off laugh.
"So, we've got to do some lame missions before we can get to the good stuff?" asked Naruto as he sat up, rubbing his head.
"Yes, basically village chores," admitted Kakashi. "Painting fences, walking dogs, cleaning sewer lines, stringing up powerlines, charging batteries if you have thunder-element access, things like that. Normally you have to do at least forty of those sorts of missions before you start getting the more interesting ones."
"Well, that stinks," said Naruto.
"We'll meet back here tomorrow at 08:00 where I'll give you your first mission," said Kakashi, glancing up at the sun to guess the time. "You three ought to practice your teamwork more."
"I suppose," said Naruto. "Kakashi-sensei? You know anything about dating and stuff? Cause I sure don't, and I think I probably should take Hinata out... what's that sudden feeling of danger I got?"
"You need help with relationship issues?" said an evilly-grinning Sakura.
"Should I run now?" asked Naruto of Sasuke.
"Too late," said Sasuke, smirking a bit at the problems hitting someone else for a change.
