Hinata gasped and her head swiveled towards Tenten.
Tenten frowned at the maid-doll, considering her answer carefully. "What makes you think one of us is not a real fiancee?"
"You're not at each other's throats, for one," said Miss Notch. "Little gloomy girl's reaction just now is another."
"I - that is - I mean," managed a fidgeting Hinata.
"I would have expected ninja assassins to have better acting skills, I must admit," said Miss Notch drily.
"She's new to the whole engagement thing," said Tenten, waving off the point. "We're not anywhere near old enough for things to turn hostile yet."
"Oh, I see," said Miss Notch, privately noting that the question had NOT been directly answered. Which WAS in keeping with the whole ninja motif, was it not? "So you're saying that you are both engaged to Uzumaki? Yet neither of you are wearing a ring?"
"We're ninja," countered Tenten. "Rings are for after a marriage. We're far more likely to trade off weapons."
Miss Notch considered that. She was thinking this was all lies and misdirection, yet it also made a certain amount of sense. "Weapons?"
Hinata held up her bracelet, which then unfolded into a bow.
Tenten took out a dagger she'd purchased herself, letting the doll come to her own conclusions.
"I see," said Miss Notch. "If nothing else, my mistress would like to know the names of her potential competition."
"I'm Tenten, she's Hinata," said Tenten.
Miss Notch curtsied, getting as much information as she could and reporting back HAD been her mission. Now she knew that the shorter of the two was likely the weakest link. When alone, she could probably be persuaded to give more information more freely.
Kronk quickly went around and disposed of the potions one by one.
Posing as a health inspector, he was able to dump one in a batch of ramen broth.
The one in the heavy crystal flask that let out a pink-heart-shaped cloud was VERY concerning to him, so he made sure that one went where it was certain to disperse in a much larger volume.
One after the other, he found a place to toss the potions. Often he went ahead and poured out whatever was in one container to replace it with the potion. As long as it was disposed of, and they didn't mix - it was all good right?
He was sure to put one in the refrigerator of that Naruto person, because if it had an effect - then Yzma would be pleased. Yzma being pleased would meant less trouble for Kronk. That would be good, especially with Yzma getting testy from camping out to the extent they were.
At which point he had to dodge some sword-swinging girl wearing one of those ceramic masks, but those masks really weren't well designed for peripheral vision.
That, of course, led him to find an escape route.
Maybe he ought to advise Yzma that a hiatus from this village might be a good idea.
Especially with it beginning to rain.
Sakura yawned, stretched, and wondered why she felt... off somehow.
It was probably nothing though. She should just get out of here though.
"Miss? Miss Haruno?"
"I'm fine,' muttered Sakura. "I ought to leave."
"Don't you think you should find some clothes first?" asked the nurse.
She shivered as things continued to go wrong. Now she was cold and wet in addition to being a helpless little black furball.
Oh sure, she could take on one or two squirrels even if she WAS a kitten. The problem with that was that there was never just one or two squirrels.
(achoo!)
Oh great, now she was catching a cold.
Well, maybe she could take refuge in this apartment here at least. That big guy sneaking around earlier had left it ajar.
