Look at anything Her size and you'd know She was never meant to be tied to a planetary surface. Her wings would not generate nearly the lift necessary for something that weighed well over a million tons. Most planetary surfaces, faced with something of Her density, would be crushed.
The closest She ever came to a planet was to either lay a single egg, or to seed the planet.
Many times there were races that spread out into the stars and wondered why so much life was so familiar. Why did the same fossilized fern show up on Corellia, Alderaan, Sporotek, Minadaou, Endor, Yavin, etc? Was it because life was composed of the same building blocks or nearly so? Or was it some other factor?
The dragons were one of those "other factors" involved. They spread life from system to system. Where one of the star dragons flew, life began its slow pulsing development.
Nor were these dragons, as one might suppose, unintelligent. That didn't mean their thought processes were particularly comprehensible to humans. They could be quite intelligent if one was approached while it was awake.
They sought out worlds that were the proper distance from their sun, fit the general profile for life bearing, and seeded DNA. Eventually life grew and became vibrant - forming the ideal environment for the dragon egg. Eventually the dragon would hatch and fly free from the womb without any inhabitants of that world being any the wiser. Not all the life-bearing worlds were seeded by the dragons, merely an odd low percentage. The world they had hatched on then had its life-forms spread about the cosmos, and so forth and so on.
She, for she didn't have a name or see the need of one, had been snoozing along, waiting to see if the egg on a particular moon would turn out. Warmed by the sun and Her own internal form of fusion, having gorged Herself on the ice crystals that had once been a comet, it had been a pleasant little nap.
Only to get awakened by a direct blast of energy in a tender part of Her anatomy. Which was why She had gone from sleep to ticked off and hungry in short order.
Energy blasts repeatedly began impacting Her surface, where the bulk of the energy was absorbed and fed her metabolism. Taking in energy like that stung, but was nourishing.
As noted earlier. She was hungry.
Major Kuross had a ship that had one large gun and a number of smaller guns that had been added under the philosophy that more is better. The large gun was indeed of the Major's philosophy that he had to have the biggest gun in his team. As he was not Tatewaki Kuno however - he had a brace of guns facing the rear so that if he were pursued he could discourage such pursuit. No, this last was not his idea, but that of one of his mechanics who merely liked to tinker.
Kuross was blasting continually away behind him as his relatively small ship bobbed and weaved and pelted the REALLY BIG thing pursuing him with blaster bolts. His noble eminence had wetted himself and hadn't gotten around to noticing yet, but otherwise would have decided to send a well done to that mechanic whom he had fired for ever suggesting that he would flee from something.
Most of Kuross' force were hiding but cheering on the dragon.
That the dragon was sufficiently large that they would want a Death Star to go after one (never mind a Star Destroyer - they wanted something that outmassed their target by at least a little) and would prefer not to be in the same quandrant as THAT.

Ku Loren stretched her mind out using the Force.
The Force was not merely a weapon to be wielded, those who followed that path ended up at the Dark Side. It was a powerful ally capable of many things. It could even influence the weak minded.
Kuross' pursuer was many things, but weak minded was not on that list. Loren was reminded of a machine intelligence, vast and powerful. Her light touch was detected, traced, and dismissed as a non-threat. This amused Loren somewhat, but she was satisfied with it and determined what she could of things.
The beast was not evil, and was not inclined to destroy the planet in any case. Its child had been delivered to this world, and was still developing somewhere on Endor.
Mollified by the knowledge, Ku Loren withdrew her probe. The creature would only become a problem after lift off. Like a period of heavy solar flare activity, it was something that could be waited out.

Red gulped as she got the Imperial communications network up and sent the data over the comlinks to the navcomputers. Major Kuross was in the system. Most of the rest of it was unclear due to the fragmentary nature of the messages and the lack of sensor feeds. It was quite obvious that something was going on.
As Akane repeatedly sneezed, a gnarled gnome pursued her, and a bunch of Ewoks sought their goddess -
