Genma found most of his objections fading as the animals failed to materialize the problems he'd foreseen. They were very discrete about using the facilities, didn't interfere for the most part in Ranma's training, and often were able to find campsites and fresh water with a few words.
They were very well trained animals and could put on a show with Ranma giving commands, and the money collected helped the cause of the training trip enormously. Which was the big part of Genma's tolerance for what he referred to as "escapees from a stewpot".
Why that phrase really seemed to upset the animals he didn't know. Didn't they recognize that it was nature's way? That rabbit, for example, would make a delicious stew!
"Excuse me," said a woman as she eyed the animals arrayed around the campsite. "I'm with a local circus. Are you Genma Saotome?"

"Last curry bread of the day," said one of the matrons, throwing the sandwich up into the air over the pack of hungry students.
Ryoga leapt for the morsel only to find a foot in his face.
"Sorry about that, guy, I need it more than you."
Ryoga growled and pursued the little thief as the boy ducked out of the room. As long as he kept line of sight, he wouldn't lose him! "Come back here with my bread!"
There was that thief! Opening his bookbag and...
Ryoga's fist stopped before coming even vaguely close as the boy broke off a hunk of bread and fed it to something in his bookbag?! "What?"
"Niew?" A head poked up and blinked at Ryoga.
Ryouga's temper momentarily derailed as he realized this boy was feeding a pet cat?! "I'll tell the teacher! You shouldn't have animals in the classroom! They'll take it away and... Why is she looking at me like that?"
Ami sniffed. Fine. Make her life miserable. "Niew!" Ami leapt out and quickly made her way out of the schoolyard. She wanted to be in school, she wanted to be with her Ranma. Their Ranma. Whatever. Now some bandana boy was making things difficult because she'd gotten hungry.
Ami stopped and sniffed. She wasn't as good in the scent identifying area as Haruka or Hotaru but that scent said "Rei".
Following her nose, and getting a few curious looks from people as she waited at a crosswalk, Ami quickly tracked down the errant scent to find that Rei was currently a:
