And gentleness was absent from his expression as he spoke. "How reliable is this information?"
"As much as can be," Joseki muttered, his hands folded on the scroll in his lap. "Our spies have not been directly privy to their Council meetings, but there is enough side evidence to support the information."
"Allowing such leaks smacks of apathy."
"I don't want to give them any sort of sympathy, but they might not have had any choice."
"And why is that?" the Kazekage grumbled.
"These children are showing skills far beyond their years. Jumping over fences, lifting crates, and so on...."
"Interesting. Can we use it for ourselves?"
The elder pursed his lips. "If we can get our hands on the source of that power, we may be able to enhance our own ninja. Though it seems that we will need to use girls, since they are what seem to interface with the energy."
"Then we will use Temari."
"Your daughter?"
"If she can be of use, it will be worth sacrificing her," the Kazekage stated with a flat look to his eyes.
"I am so not looking forward to this assignment," Anko Mitarashi groused as she crossed her arms over her chest. "It's just going to be so stupid...."
Ebisu blinked back at her from behind his ever present sunglasses. "What do you mean? I thought that you would have jumped at the chance to accept an assignment from the elders."
"You would. Babysitting a horde of little brats isn't exactly my idea of fun."
"But you could have always gotten a genin team of your own soon enough."
She gave him a most indelicate snort. "Yeah, right. I'm not some trainer like you are. Besides, leading a team of ninja into battle isn't like making sure that some kids don't misbehave."
"I'll give you that."
"Oh man, I'm probably going to have a headache for a while."
"If you are so against it, why don't you just ask them to find someone else?" he asked.
"I have my reasons," Anko replied, reaching up to rub at her neck, right where her Cursed Seal was.
All eyes were on Yugito Nii as she stood next to the wall. It was not that she was so amazing that one could not drag their gaze from her, although she was attractive. Nor was it the attitude that she was giving, as she had stayed quiet for several moments, and not really moved either. Rather, she was still and peaceful, in a moment of quiet importance.
"Then this boy may be able to help contain my... abilities," she murmured, her voice low, but firm.
The Raikage nodded slightly and leaned back in his chair. "That is the idea. Though we can't be sure until we can see him for ourselves. If nothing else, he represents a new strength for the Hidden Leaf."
"Are we talking about a threat?"
"Possibly, although the Hokage isn't of the sort who would attack with a reason... real or fabricated."
"I see."
"Umm...." Omoi stammered, raising a hand. "Can I ask a question?"
Karui reached over and smacked her teammate on the back of the head.
"What?! I just wanted to know if we should be hearing all of this."
"Do you think that they'd have us here if they didn't?!" the redhead hissed. "Right, Samui."
The busty blonde didn't move as she spoke. "There has to be a reason."
"Exactly!"
"But I just want to know what it is!" the sole member of their team complained.
"True enough, and there is a reason," the Raikage drawled. "It's due to your team make up and your connection to Bee."
"Really?"
"It seems that this boy's abilities only really react with female presences."
"And having two women on a team will increase the chances that we will get a result," Yugito commented, waving a hand at the younger trio.
"Though it is more likely to get actions if we have cause some sort of emotional... prodding."
Everyone turned to stare at Karui.
"What did I do?" asked the young kunoichi, while:
