Usagi awoke with a start.
She had been having problems getting to sleep to begin with, what with Ami having been sucked into another dimension, but as neither Usagi nor Rei had the means to so much as duplicate what had happened... The end result of it was that Usagi cried herself to sleep worrying about Ami, and Rei tired herself out trying to get a successful fire reading on the whereabouts of Ami, or the activity of the Dark Kingdom, or any useful information, really.
Both girls had been lucky that Ami's mother was out of town for a business trip, and that Ami's father only got one visitation a month. Still, it was going to be awkward explaining to either parent "Hi, I'm sorry, but your daughter got kidnapped by monsters and sent to another dimension. We're doing all we can to bring her back, though, so don't worry!"
Usagi looked over to Luna. She wasn't sure, but she could feel in her bones that something was incredibly wrong now. Neither good nor evil, just overwhelmingly wrong.
Instinctively, she reached for her Moon Prism Broach and ran her hand across the small blue jewel on the bottom. "Ami-chan" she said softly.
She did not get back to sleep that night.
A brown-haired boy stopped doing what he was doing. Urawa Ryo was no stranger to knowing things that he shouldn't; he was a Foreseer, and he was also the carrier of the Yellow Crystal. It was his doom to become a monster...
But as he reflected on what he saw, his head throbbed with the realization that someone had not only been denied their fate, but that the fate of many people would change because of it.
A girl with blue hair, leading an army of monsters against... he didn't want to think about the rest of that vision. Seeing it the first time had almost made him throw up.
It was just so inherently wrong, and he didn't even know why.
A phone rang in the night. A sleepless man answered it.
"Ha~i, Mizuno Kensuke speaking... Miaka!? Why did you... A nightmare? That's interesting... because I had one too. Ami was captured by monsters and forced to become... neither good nor evil, by the feel of it... I know you're going to call me superstitious about this, but... Miaka, don't you think it's odd that we had the exact same nightmare at the exact same time?"
On the other side of the island, Mizuno Miaka slammed the phone onto the hook. Why did I even bother calling Kensuke about this? I should have known he'd start going into his supernatural claptrap again...
She sighed and climbed back into the hotel bed. Still, Kensuke had a point. The nightmare she had had about her daughter was wrong on so many levels, not even Freud would be able to start.
The Horned Reaper, still adjusting to the chill of the surroundings, started to rage at the frozen walls of the dungeon. "If you don't give me that girl NOW, I'm going to start HACKING MY WAY to the SURFACE!"
Almost as though by his request, Ami materialized in front of him...
